HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2014-01-15 4th of July Steering Committee Minutes January 15, 2014 Board Members in Attendance: Chris Scarpa Terri Corbett Stacy Scarpa Judy Dealejandro Michelle Scarpa Tony Scarpa Stefanie Karacostas James Toney, Director of Community Services Pat McGinnis, Council Billy Enochs, Council Liasion Ray and Candy Robinson with Celestial Display , Guest Drew Pennywell, Staff Michael Boyett, Staff Kimberly Ramirez, Staff 1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. 2. Communications from the public: The Robinson's with Celestial Display attended the meeting. They wanted to inform the group about they wa nted to propose a quote for this year’s fireworks display. They informed the group that they could offer a show from $18,000 and up for a spectacular display. 3. Discussion and possible action regarding October 16, 2013 minutes: Chris Scarpa made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Stefanie Karacostas second the motion and the motion was passed unanimously. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding the 2014, 4th of July Celebration A. Theme: Stefanie made a motion to approve Friendswood, Small Town, Big Hearts as the theme for 2014 Celebration, Stacy Scarpa second the motion and the motion passed unanimously. B. Parade: Tony brought up the subject that a lot of horses have dropped out of the parade in the past years due to requirement for the Coggins report. Committee also wants us to solicit local schools to participate in the parade, like Pearland, Alvin, Clear Springs and Clear Brook. The grand marshal has not confirmed as of today. C. Day Program: James stated he wanted to bring in more rides for the day program this year. Would like to expand and make a food court area. Michelle will look into trying out layout from Santa in the Park. D. Evening: James informed the group that we are no longer using our current firework s provider. He contacted City of Pearland and they use a company from Pennsylvania, the City of Pearland has been very happy with this company. James has been in contact with Zambelli and they have quoted $20,000 for the evening fireworks show. They gave us an option for a 3 year contract at the same price. James informed the group that the band has been confirmed which are Molly and the Ringwalds. The carnival will be brought to the evening program as well. We will need more staffing for this area. Committee questioned status of the skydivers, staff stated we have not contacted them as of yet but will this week. Pat stated he will ask the Lone Star Squadron about the flyover. Order White shirts. White during the day and red at night. 5. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:51 pm Approved by: Kimberly Ramirez Date: February 26, 2014
