HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2009-04-22 April 22, 2009 Fourth of July Steering Committee Minutes A regular meeting of the Fourth of July Steering Committee was held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at City Hall, located at 910 S Friendswood, Friendswood, TX 77546, at which time the following subject will be considered. The following members and staff were present at the meeting: Corey Kirkland Ken Turner Skip Redding Tony Scarpa Chris Scarpa Stefanie Scarpa Craig Kovacevich Minh Tanita Gary Wenzel Michelle Scarpa James Toney, Director of Community Services Kim Ramirez, staff Josh Rogers, PD Jim Barr, Council Liaison 1. Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 7:31 p.m. 2. Communications from the public: James Toney informed the committee that The Young Marines organization would like to participate in the 4th of July program as the group that presents the flags at the evening program, and help with the stage. Ken Turner made a motion to have the Young Marines present the flags at the evening program, Tony Scarpa seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. The committee discussed the band for next years event, Darrell Fales suggested Rick Trevino, James Toney suggested an act from Radio Disney. Ken Turner made a motion to investigate the cost of next years band, Radio Disney, Vocal Trash, or Rick Trevino, Craig Kovacevich second the motion and the motion passed unanimously. Gary Wenzel stated that he will contact Friendswood Community church for the use of their parking lot for the evening program can’t use Friendswood High School due to the construction of the new natatorium. Corey stated that the committee will use approximately 12 gators from Lansdowne Moody this year. 3. Minutes: Ken Turner made a motion to pass the March 25, minutes as corrected, Stefanie Scarpa second the motion and the motion passed unanimously. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding the 2009, 4th of July Celebration: A. Parade: James Toney stated Ed Stuart has acknowledged to the city that he has accepted the honor of being the Grand Marshall. James Toney stated that the portable toilets vendor have been secured for the day of the parade. James Toney stated that fencing vendor has not been found yet, the city might be purchasing fencing. Corey Kirkland would like to have the police on the other side of the road for the parade so their will not have other vehicles driving on the other side of the street, addressed with Josh Rogers, PD liaison. Josh Rogers has agreed to police the area. Corey Kirkland stated that only one or two gators are allowed on the parade route and all other are staged during the parade. Committee was informed that Just for Kids Day care would like to go back to their property after the parade, which is on Shadwell. Josh Rogers stated that it will be ok as long as PD is notified; James Toney stated that staff will find out how big and what kind of float they will have. Ken Turner made a motion to allow the day care to go back to their property on Shadwell after the parade, Craig Kovacevich seconded and the motion passed unanimously. B. Day Program: James Toney stated that the Zydeco Dots will be the day band for the day program. Will need two different singers for the star spangle banner and another patriot song. C. Evening: James Toney stated that the Bellamy Brother has been confirmed, will need to check on the rider on providing food for the band. Stefanie Scarpa showed the board the parking passes that will be provided to the vendors. The parking passes will be printed in house and assigned numbers. 5.
