Forth of July Steering Committee
A regular meeting of the Forth of July Steering Committee was held on Wednesday,
January 21, 2009 at the 2nd floor conference room, located at 910 S Friendswood Dr.
Friendswood, TX 77546, at which time the following subject will be considered.
The following members and staff were present at the meeting:

Corey Kirkland
Rachael Williams, guest
James Toney, Director of Community Services

Jim Barr, City Council Liaison
1. Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 7:53 p.m.
2. Communications from the public: Table
3. Discussion and possible action regarding October 15, 2008 minutes: Robin Hall
made a motion to accept the meeting minutes as corrected.
4. Evening program:
A. Discussion and possible action regarding the evening program entertainment
for the 2009, 4th of July Celebration: James Toney stated that Bellamy Brothers have
been confirmed for the evening event and are inquiring about a larger stage. James
Toney also informed the committee that the City has entered into a new 3 year agreement
with Alpha Lee for $18,000 per event; starting 2010 for the Fireworks entertainment.
The board discussed in needing help in setting up the stage.
B. Theme: Renae Rives made a motion to accept Friends, Family, and Friendswood, a
Standing Tradition, as the theme for the 2009 4th of July Celebration, Skip Redding
seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
C. Parade: The board named Darrell Fales as the Committee’s photographer for the
parade portion of the event, Tommy McDonald and Tony Scarpa for day program, and
Robin Hall for the evening. Tony Scarpa requested numbers changed for entries at
Captain’s corner. Staff will verify with PD to see if the parade route can counter flow
with traffic if there is drainage construction during the time of the parade. Corey Kirkland
suggested media coverage for this year’s 114th event.
Darrell Fales made a motion to appoint Steve Van Meter as the Grand Marshall for this
years parade, Robin Hall seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously.
Corey Kirkland suggested having a Military Band at the parade.
D. Day Program: Tommy McDonald will be the chair for the day program
subcommittee. James Toney informed the board that Zydeco Dots will be the band for
the day program.
E. Budget: The budget for this year’s event was handed out to the committee members.
5. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 9:12 p.m.
