HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2009-08-19 Fourth of July Steering Committee August 19, 2009 Minutes A regular meeting of the Fourth of July Steering Committee was held on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at City Hall, located at 910 S Friendswood Dr, Friendswood, TX 77546, at which time the following subject will be considered. The following members and staff were present at the meeting: Dan Morgan Nicole Morgan Michelle Scarpa Stacy Scarpa Tony Scarpa Ken Turner Darrell Fales Renae Rives Skip Redding Minh Tanita Director of Community Services: James Toney Staff: Kimberly Ramirez 1. Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 7:19 p.m. 2. Communications from the public: NA 3. Minutes: Nicole Morgan made a motion to approve the July 15, 2009 minutes as corrected, Renae Rives seconded the motion and the motion passed unanimously. 4. Discussion and possible action on creating subcommittees for the 2010 4th of July Celebration: Subcommittees Chairs: Dignitary Breakfast-Skip Redding Day Program-Michelle Scarpa Parade-Tony Scarpa Stage Committee-Dan Morgan Bus Committee-Renae Rives Logistics-Nicole Morgan Judges-Renae Rives Corporate sponsorship-Ken Turner Executive committee will be the chairs of all of the subcommittees to meet on planning the overall 2010 4th of July Celebration. 5. Budget: The committee went over the budget for 2009 in detail and made request for next year’s budget. James Toney informed the board that the 2010 budget will be the same as the 2009 budget. Dan Morgan stated that a dollar figure should be set aside for the entertainment for the 2010 celebration. Ken Turner made a motion to spend no more than $15,000 for the night entertainment, Renae Rives second the motion and the motion passed unanimously. 6. Discussion and possible action regarding the 2009, 4 th of July Celebration: A. Parade: The parade is scheduled on Monday, July 5; since the 4th of July falls on a Sunday. A theme needs to be decided for the 2010 4th of July. Stefanie Scarpa requested to have Friendswood schools to submit the theme ideas in form of a contest and publish the winner in the local newspaper. Renae Rives will send a proposal to Friendswood schools for the theme contest. Deadline will be November 1st will have it up for a vote in January’s meeting. And will provide ribbon and trophy for winners. B. Day Program: Will be scheduled Monday, July 5th after the parade and will start at 11am. The committee requested a larger sound system for the day band and would like to have multiple stages for the day program. C. Evening: The evening program will be scheduled on Sunday July 4th:, the gates will open at 6pm and will have available parking at the new junior high. Booking entertainment for the 2010 4 th of July celebration will be decided at January’s meeting. 7. Adjournment: Nicole Morgan made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:25 p.m., Stefanie Scarpa second the motion and the meeting was adjourned. Approved by: Kimberly Ramirez Date: 1-20-09
