HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2007-06-20June 20, 2007 Fourth of July Steering Committee A regular meeting of the Fourth of July Steering Committee was held on Wednesday, the 20th day of June, at 6:30 p.m., at Centennial Park, Friendswood, TX 77546, at which time the following subjects will be considered: The following members and staff were present at the meeting: Chairman, Corey Kirkland Dan Morgan Nicole Morgan Skip Redding Renae Rives Tony Scarpa Michelle Scarpa Stacy Scarpa Stefanie Scarpa Chris Scarpa Robin Hall, Chamber Liaison Heather McDonald Tommy McDonald Darrell Fales James Toney, Director of Community Services Kimberly Ramirez,staff Michael Boyett, staff Melanie Glaze, staff Lucy Woltz, Chamber Liaison Guest: Al Sailor 1. The meeting was called to order at 6:47 p.m. 2. Nicole Morgan made a motion to approve the June 6, 2007 minutes. Michelle Scarpa seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously. 3. Discussion and possible action regarding 4th of July Program. A. Kimberly Ramirez reported that there are 56 parade entries at the present time. Discussion was made that the streets will be painted on July 2. James Toney stated that Michael Boyett would be in charge of the cars for the parade and that he would need 8 drivers. B. Nicole Morgan stated that the park would be staked out at 8:30 on July 2 and she would need help assigning spots at the park. James Toney reported that the new band for the day program would be Johnny & the Heartbreaks which would be charging a rate of $1000.00. Still Standing, the band originally booked cancelled due to equipment being stolen. Nicole Morgan stated that she would need help with the ice at day program, Lucy Woltz volunteered to help. C. Mr. Dan Morgan reported that the 111th Fighter Wing will be flying over at evening program. Corey Kirland introduced Al Sailor with Remax, Mr. Sailor along with two other skydivers would be flying over Centennial Park and skydiving in during the evening program at 8:00 before the band started. Each skydiver would be holding a flag; the American, Friendswood, and Texas flag. Ground crew will be near landing site to catch American flag so it would not touch the ground. Dan Morgan stated that bus service would be starting at 6:30 and would be stopping drop off service between 8:30-8:45. Tommy McDonald would be stationed at the gate in the entrance way of Centennial Park. Corey Kirkland requested vote for Spirit Award, vote was between Police department, Nicole Morgan, Mel Measles, and Jon Branson. Vote results was a tie between Police department and Nicole Morgan, James Toney decided on tie, Winner was Nicole Morgan. B. Nicole Morgan made motion that Mel Measles would be honorary grand marshal Heather McDonald seconded. D. James Toney reported that the committee was on budget. James Toney stated that their have been 10 contributors and funds from the sell of the shirts and contributors will go to improvements to Stevenson Park. 4. Mr. Corey Kirkland made a motion to adjourn. James Toney seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm.
