Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
November 10, 2009
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory
Committee, which was held at the Activity Building in Meeting
Room D at 9:00 a.m. on November 10, 2009 with all board members
present, constitutes a quorum:

Elena Luquette, Assistant Senior Program Manager
The following items were discussed:
1. Genie Balderaz called the meeting to order at 9:10am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Si Pate.
3. New members were selected by Council and added to the
Committee: Paul Gordner, Mary Jane Musser and Dorothy Montz as
an alternate. Ballots were passed out to elect a new Chair and Vice
Chair. Michael Boyett counted the ballots and Paul Gordner was
elected the new Chair and Mary Jane Musser was elected the new
Vice Chair.
4. The Christmas Potluck will take place on Wednesday,
December 16th from 11:00am- 1:00pm. We will provide BBQ
brisket. Seniors are asked to bring a side dish and dessert. Mr.
and Mrs. Claus will be here to take pictures. Noula’s tap
dancers will perform from 12:00pm- 1:00pm.
6. Upcoming trips and events: On Thursday, December 10th, we
will go to the Premium Outlet Mall. The cost is $5.00 per
person. Lunch will be on your own. We plan to leave the
Activity Building at 9:00am and return around 3:00pm. On
Tuesday, December 15th, we will go to Old Town Spring. We
will leave the Activity Building at 9:00am and plan to return
around 3:00pm. The cost of this trip is $5.00 per person.
There will be lots of walking on this trip. On Thursday,
December 17th, we will go on a Christmas Light Tour. This is
a free trip. We will leave the Activity Building at 5:00pm and
go to Cracker Barrel for dinner. The meal is on your own.
From there, we will head out to see the lights. We plan to
return around 9:00pm. The Activity Building will be closed
Thursday, December 24th and Friday, December 25th for the
Christmas Holidays. Ideas for trips in the coming year were
discussed: Fishing in Alvin and a possible New Year’s Eve
celebration at the Activity Building.
7. As of November 9th, the available funds in the Senior Trip
account is $1902.56. The Senior Fundraising account has
$313.24. In the event account, there is $1880.54 in the Senior
Events accounts. The total funds available in the senior
account are $4096.34. All funds taken from events are put into
the senior account, which is separate from the general
account. That money can be used by the FSCP any way it
needs to be, as long as it is spent within a specific time frame.
The money listed on this budget needs to be spent by October
1, 2010. Suggestions for how to spend the money are
welcome. Recommendations for the purchase of a new bus
have been considered, but have not met budget approval.
8. Roy had a complaint about the new chairs. There is a sharp
piece on the under side of the chairs. The problem will be
handled immediately. Also, Roy complained about seniors
having to wait outside until 8:55am because of the new rules
being enforced. He says that the coming winter season will be
too hard on the seniors having to wait outside until the
building opens.
9. Frankie Santoro said that Halloween in the Park went very
well. She commented that a lot of people attended the event.
10. Report from Recreation Coordinator: Michael Boyett
discussed the addition of new members. He said that the by
laws will be discussed at the next meeting.
11. Meeting was adjourned at 10:00am.
