Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
October 13, 2009
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory
Committee, which was held at the Activity Building in Meeting
Room D at 9:00 a.m. on October 13, 2009 with all board members
present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Ms. Jean Bilderback- Chair
Ms. Si Pate – Vice Chair
Ms. Ginger Spade- Regular Member
Ms. Frankie Santoro- Regular Member
Ms. Sharon Richardson- Regular Member
Ms. Rae McMullen- Alternate Member
Staff/Liaison:
Michael Boyett, Recreation Coordinator
Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
The following items were discussed:
1. Ms. Bilderback called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Si Pate.
3. Ms. Pate made a motion and approved the September minutes.
Ms. Richardson made the motion that a correction should be made to
add her name to the minutes. Ms. Pate seconded the motion and the
minutes were unanimously approved with that correction.
4. The Fall Picnic was a success. There was a good turn out with
a lot of new participant in attendance. Michael suggested
using the PA system in the future.
5. The Potluck Luncheon will take place on November 18, from
11:00- 1:00pm. Pauletta Jeter, with Jeter Memorial Funeral
Home will provide Turkey, dressing and gravy. The seniors
will bring a side dish and dessert. Entertainment will be
provided by the Wag- Around Dancers.
6. Upcoming trips and events include a trip to the Wortham
Theater on Wednesday, November 4th. We plan to leave the
building at 10:15 and return around 2:00pm. The cost is
$12.00 per person and a box lunch is included. Saturday,
November 7th will be our Annual Fall Dance. It will take place
from 7:00- 10:00pm. The cost is $6.00 per person. David
Coney with Edward Jones will sponsor the refreshments.
Music will be provided by DJ Peter Hoth. We will also make
a trip to Reliant Center for Nutcracker Market on Thursday,
November 12th. We plan to leave the building at 9:00am and
return around 2:00. The cost will be $15.00 per person with
lunch on your own at the event. On Monday, November 16th,
we plan to make a trip to Galveston to visit the Moody
Mansion. We plan leave at 9:00am and return around 2:30pm.
The cost is $10.00 per person and lunch will be on your own
at Fishtales. The Friendswood Activity Building will be
closed November Wednesday, November 11th for Veteran’s
Day and November 26th and 27th for Thanksgiving.
7. The Budget was reviewed by committee members. As of
September 30th, there was a balance of $3607.31 available.
After purchases were made (chairs, PA system, etc.), there
was a remainder of $1795.80 available.
8. Comments made by Public N/A.
9. Comments made by Committee members: Ms. Pate had a
complaint about the new PA system and the frequent
announcements. Ms. Spade raised a question about the
membership fees. There was some confusion about whether or
not someone had to live in Friendswood or just have a P.O.
Box in Friendswood to be considered a resident.
10. Report from Recreation Coordinator N/A.
11. Meeting was adjourned at 9:45 am.
