HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2009-07-14 RegularREGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee July 14, 2009 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, which was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on July 14, 2009 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Ms. Jean Bilderback- Chair Ms. Si Pate – Vice Chair Ms. Frankie Santoro Regular Member Ms. Ginger Spade- Regular Member Ms. Sharon Richardson- Regular Member Ms. Rae McMullen- Alternate Member Staff/Liaison: James Tony, Director Community Service Genie Balderaz, Assistant Senior Manager The following items were discussed: 1. Ms. Bilderback called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Si Pate. 3. The June minutes were approved unanimously. 4. Committee members discussed the budget. Frankie Santora moved that the budget be accepted, seconded by Sharon Richardson. 5. Committee members discussed the Casino Extravaganza. It will take place August 28, 2009, from 2:00pm 5:00pm.There will be Black Jack, Roulette, Craps and poker tables, manned by professional dealers. The total cost for this event will be $2,750.00. There will be door prizes and drawings for those who attend. Peter Holt will DJ the 3 hour event. 6. Upcoming trips for August include: An overnight trip to Paragon Casino in Marksville, LA, August 12 and 13. The cost is $50.00 per person for a double occupancy and $75.00 for a single occupancy room. On August 20th, we have an Ice Cream Social, August 25th, a trip to Kemah that will cost $5.00 per person. August 26th, we will have Bingo and August 28th is the Casino Extravaganza from 2:00- 5:00. This is a free event. 7. Committee members discussed and voted to purchase a GPS system for the bus. The cost will be approximately $200.00. Ginger moved and Si seconded 8. Comments made by the public N/A. 9. Comments were made by committee members that there should be no solicitation at the senior center. There was also a discussion about the newsletters. Volunteers could fold and prepare without having to cancel their plans. James Tony said that we could use the printer at City Hall, in order to cut printing time in half. 10.
