HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2009-06-09 RegularREGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee June 9, 2009 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, which was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on June 9, 2009 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Ms. Jean Bilderback- Chair Ms. Si Pate – Vice Chair Ms. Frankie Santoro Regular Member Ms. Ginger Spade- Regular Member Ms. Sharon Richardson- Regular Member Ms. Rae McMullen- Alternate Member Staff/Liaison: Michael Boyett, Recreation Coordinator Genie Balderaz, Assistant Senior Manager Council Member, Bill Holbert The following items were discussed: 1. Ms. Bilderback called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Si Pate. 3. Ms. Bilderback made a motion and approved the June minutes. The motion carried unanimously. 4. Upcoming trips on Wednesday July 8th are a Baywatch Tour. We originally scheduled an Astros ballgame, but it was cancelled. On Wednesday, July 15, we are going to the Gulf Greyhound Park from 10:30am – 4:30pm. There is a Photography Class on Monday, July 20th from 1pm-2pm. The cost is $15.00 per person. On Thursday, July 23rd is a cooking class hosted by Donna Duffer from 12:30pm – 2pm. The cost is $10.00 per person. Also scheduled is a Wii Tournament on Monday, July 27th. A Watermelon Bash and Bingo game will be held on July 29th from 12:00pm – 2pm. On July 30th we are traveling to Galveston to ride on the Colonel Paddleboat. We leave at 9am and return around 3:30pm. The cost will be $12.00 per person. 5. The Friendswood Activity Center will be closed on Friday July 3rd. 6. We will be going to Marksville, Louisiana for a Paragon Trip on Wednesday, August 12 & Thursday, August 13. The cost is $50 per person with double occupancy, and $75 per person for single. Sign-up is July 1st. 7. The Painting Class is getting expensive. We wondered if there was a way to keep costs low for those wanting to take the class. Councilman Bill Holbert suggested bringing the issue before council members to see if $1,000.00 can be appropriated for the class. Heather is to come in and set up at 12:45pm for her 1pm class. The class is from 1pm – 3pm. 8. Comments made by the public N/A. 9. The Advisory Committee made a suggestion that we purchase a ping pong table. Michael researches the cost and determined that it would be about $250.00. Jean Bilderback suggested that we could have a ping pong tournament and Jean made a motion to purchase the Ping Pong table while Ginger seconded the motion. 10.
