Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
April 14, 2009
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory
Committee, which was held at the Activity Building in Meeting
Room D at 9:00 a.m. on April 14, 2009 with the following members
present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Ms. Jean Bilderback- Chair
Ms. Si Pate – Vice Chair
Ms. Ginger Spade- Regular Member
Ms. Sharon Richardson- Regular Member
Ms. Rae McMullen- Alternate Member
Staff/Liaison:
James Toney, Director of Community Service
Genie Balderaz, Assistant Senior Manager
The following items were discussed:
1. Ms. Bilderback called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Si Pate.
3. Ms. Bilderback made a motion and approved the May minutes. The
motion carried unanimously.
4. Committee members discussed the Spaghetti Luncheon Fund
Raiser. We had approximately 128 people who attended the
fun-raiser. The event went very well with no complaints. We
sold 128 plates and made $639.00. Joe DeBonis was given
$50.00 for some of his expenses. This left $589.00 for deposit
in our DNSRS account.
5. The upcoming events for May. Tuesday, May the 5th. will be
our Cinco de Mayo Luncheon, Ralfa Castillo will be singing
Mariachi Music. We will be paying her $50.00 for her
entertainment. On Wednesday, May 6th we are going to the
Wortham Theatre. On Thursday, May 14th will be our
Coushatta Trip. We’ll be leaving here at 8am and be returning
at 8pm. That’s $10.00 per person. If I get my 40 people which
I’m sure we’ll reach our quota everyone will get their $10.00
back. We will have a Wii Tournament on Monday, May 18th.
Thursday, May 21st is our HP1 Trip and we will go to the
Brookwood Community, we need to order in advance and the
cost of the trip is $5.00 and the lunch will run about $8.50. It
will be lunch on your own.
6. James Toney gave a Budget Account Report and said as of
April 8th, 2009 the SR trip account has $2,149.32. In the SR
Activities account, we have appropriations of $650.39. In the
Sr. Fund- Raiser account the appropriation on that is $607.00
as of 4/08/2009. The senior event trip account has a negative
of $818.26 which leaves us with a grand total of $2,588.35.
7. Ginger Spade mentioned that we could donate some arts and
crafts to the Apostle Home Health Care across the street from
the Senior Center. Heather Roy is starting an Acrylic Art
Class on Wednesday, April 22nd from 1pm – 3pm.
8. Comments made by the public N/A.
9. Si Pate requested that we purchase a pencil sharpener to keep
traffic out of the main office to sharpen pencils.
10. James Toney made an announcement to the committee
members that Amanda Tatum is no longer in employed by the
City of Friendswood as of March 30th, 2009.
11. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 10:15am.
