Minute Maid Park. The HP1 bus will leave the Activity Building at 11:00am

from 11:00am- 1:00pm. This event will be sponsored by Don Jackson and
Aaron Halford with Apostle Home Health. We will serve Barbeque brisket,
potato salad and beans.
Trip suggestions include a trip to the Moody Gardens IMAX Theatre, with
lunch at the Rainforest Café. There was also some interest in the San Jacinto
Monument, as well as a play, an ice hockey game and trip to the Museum of
Natural History,
There has been recent interest in taking a group of seniors on an overnight
trip to San Antonio. The trip would take place from September 22nd through
September 24th. The cost would be $299 per person. This includes lodging,
four meals (2 breakfasts and two dinners), travel, and guided tours of the
Riverwalk, the Alamo, and San Antonio missions, as well as an IMAX
movie. We will post a flyer and sign up sheet to see how many people are
interested.
6. As of May 3rd, 2010, we have a total of $6,630.59 in the Senior Account. We
will not know anything new about the awning until some time in July. The
Advisory Committee voted to purchase the tables. To buy six round tables
and four square tables, the total is $1,623.82. The Advisory Committee also
voted to purchase a 15” digital photo frame for $179.00 as well as 15 Bibles
at $19.99 each, that will total to $399.80. It was also decided that we should
purchase various kitchen utensils.
7. Goals and objectives for 2010 were discussed at length. The Welcoming
Committee has been hard at work spreading the word throughout the
community about our senior program. Ms. Frankie Santoro and Ms. Jill
Musser held a meeting at the Bedford and answered questions the seniors
had.
The Advisory Committee voted to eliminate the Senior Picnic that was set to
take place on September 15th, 2010. Most of the members were not
interested and wanted to spend the money elsewhere on things to help our
program. It was suggested that we have some sort of volunteer luncheon
instead. The vote was 5:3 with five members voting against the picnic.
Since we eliminated the picnic, we need to try to put more emphasis on our
existing goals. The Crochet Class is still interested in making the helmet
liners, but they have no wool. They are currently making caps for chemo
patients. We will get with Becky Kraft about cost of yarn/ wool and how
much we need. Also, Committee Members should help the Welcoming
Committee seek out new members.
We also contacted the Eagle Scouts and they are more than happy to help us
out with new benches, the garden and possibly new picnic tables. We are
currently waiting for a call back from them.
8. Comments made by the Public: Ms. Jill Musser brought it to the
Committee’s attention that there had been complaints about saving seats at
Bridge and at lunch. There is a standing rule that there should be no saving
seats. Also, at events, it is recommended that Committee Members should
try
to mingle more with the new people. They should try to make them feel
welcome and comfortable.
9. Comments made by the Committee Members: N/A.
10. Report from the Recreation Coordinator: N/A.
11. The meeting was adjourned at 10:05am.
