There are still some pending deposits, not yet included in this total. Recent expenditures include the new coat rack by the lockers and the flowers in front of the building. Everyone agrees that the flowers look better than ever. 8. An itemized list of the 2010 Senior Advisory Committee Goals were passed around. In relation to the new Senior Welcoming Committee, Ms. Frankie Santoro suggested dividing Friendswood into 10 areas and assigning one volunteer per area. Each volunteer would call seniors in their assigned area, and set up appointments with them. Upon meeting with the seniors, volunteers would then give out gift bags to the people they visit and invite them to join our program. We were not able to obtain a list of local seniors in Friendswood from the Utility/ Billing Department. Hopefully, we will have more luck with the Tax Department. Regarding the Helmet liners for troops, Ms. Jill Musser proposed to her Crochet Class that they might be able to make some of the liners to send overseas. The general consensus is that they are not yet skilled enough to make them, but it is something they would like to consider in the future. The suggestion was made that we might be able to place an ad in the Friendswood Reporter for wool donations. There is also the option of Twitter. As for the Senior Picnic, the Advisory Committee needs to plan the event. The idea is to invite seniors from Friendswood and surrounding communities. Planning should begin soon. Once a date has been set, the committee can begin the search for sponsors. Staff members are happy to help with contact information. 9. Councilman Bill Holbert made some comments on upcoming projects and construction in Friendswood. There were no other comments made by the public. 10. Ms. Ginger Spade made a comment about the lack of space in the building for various classes. The classes are overlapping and there is some trouble finding places to put people. There was some confusion as to whether or not seniors could play cards in the lunchroom before lunch. Seniors are welcome to social activities in the lunch room before lunch, as long as they have cleared out and put things away by 11:10am. This is so that the seniors planning to eat lunch may take their seats and get ready to be served. Activities in the lunch room may resume after everyone is finished eating lunch. There were no other comments from committee members. 11. Report from the Recreation Coordinator: A request was made to Council for the acquisition of a new bus. It is now up to Council to approve the request. At the last meeting, we discussed putting up signs on FM 518 in Friendswood that would point people in the direction of our building. They should be up by the end of the week. We have received a quote for the awning. The estimate is $4921. We can either put in a request to council for approval or search for new quotes. There is also the possibility of trying to raise half of the funds or just putting up half of the cost out of the senior account to pay for it. Then, council might be more willing to approve the cost. 12. The meeting was adjourned at 10:16am. _____________________________________ Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager Date Approved: March 9, 2010
