That has yet to be confirmed, but seniors do have the option of playing games after the event. 7. As of January 7th, 2010, the total funds available in the senior account are $4,991.75. This total does not include the cost of the bus detail (estimated $350.00) or the new television to be purchased ($749.99). Ms. Jill Musser had a question about the reason for charging over the actual cost for trips. The price typically covers the lunch and/ or tickets for the drivers. The budget amendment will increase the overall total in the senior account. The awning discussed at the December meeting is being researched, but we do not have a quote yet. There was a discussion about hosting another benefit or fundraiser, but no decision has been made. Ms. Si Pate suggested that we out up some sort of sign directing people to the Activity Building, from FM 518. Also, an address sign on front of the building was discussed. Most committee members were in agreement about the signs, but a decision has yet to be made. 8. Changes to the Advisory Committee By- Laws were discussed. One change was made to the Committee duties. Item 9 was removed. Everything else remained as it was written. 9. Committee members held a long discussion about goals for 2010. Mr. Paul Gordner proposed that City Council should be approached about a new bus for the program and the need for more room, in order for the FSCP to continue to grow. Ms. Frankie Santoro made several suggestions for goals in 2010. One of her concerns is reaching seniors at home. She suggested started a committee of seniors, separate from this Advisory Committee, which would go out into the community and meet with seniors. The goal would be to visit at least 20 people each month and encourage them to join the FSCP, and perhaps even bring these people some sort of care package. Members of this Welcoming Seniors committee would be chosen from current program participants. A sign- up sheet should be placed at the front and anyone interested may choose to join the team. The deadline to sign- up would have to be a week before the next advisory meeting on Tuesday, February 9th, 2010. Ms. Frankie Santoro and Ms. Jill Musser volunteered to head this new welcoming committee. Ms. Frankie Santoro also suggested several community service projects to the committee. She mentioned that troops stationed in Iraq are in desperate need of wool helmet liners. Committee members and other seniors might consider knitting these helmet liners and sending them to the troops. A suggestion was made that perhaps the new crochet class might want to help make them. Helmet liners could be sent separately or even included in care packages that would be sent to the troops. Flyers were passed around with instructions describing how to make the helmet liners. Another recommendation was to have a picnic at Stevenson Park and invite seniors from other communities and senior centers. The FSCP would put it together (with sponsor donations) and invite the surrounding communities. Several other community service projects were recommended, but none stirred any interest. 10. A comment was brought to the attention of the committee that there might be an interest in starting a community garden. The Community Appearance Board would have a better idea of a possible location for the garden. 11. Comments made by Committee Members: N/A 12. Report from the Recreation Coordinator: Members of the committee made comments at the December meeting about floor tiles that need to be replaced. In order to do that, the building would have to be closed one week to one and a half weeks, to allow time to remove all of the old tile, grind down the concrete and lay the new tile. It would also be very expensive. However, since it is a matter of safety, if reported to Council as a safety issue, there is a possibility that they will help with the cost. 13. The meeting was adjourned at 10:50am. _____________________________________ Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager Date Approved: February 9, 2010
