Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
August 9, 2011
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
which was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. On
August 9, 2011 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair
Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair
Ms. Ginger Spade, Regular Member

Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member
Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member

Mr. Art Lizza, Regular Member
Staff/ Liaison:
Michael Boyett, Senior Program Coordinator
Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager
The following items were discussed:
1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:08am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Rae McMullen.
3. The July 12, 2011 minutes were approved.
4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of July include:
a. The first Monday of the month we will take a trip to Wal-Mart,
departing the building at 12:35pm. On Thursday, September
8th, we will Mrs. Baird’s Bread for a Tour of the bakery. The
cost will be $5 person and lunch will be on your own at a
location to be determined. We will depart the activity building
at 9:00am and return at 3:00pm. On Wednesday, September 14
at 8:00am we will head to Marksville, LA to visit Paragon
Casino. We will return at 8:00pm on Thursday, September 15.
The cost will be $65 for double occupancy and $85 for single
occupancy Tookie’s has reopened and the Lunch Bunch will
head to Kemah on Tuesday, September 20, 10:00am – 1:00pm.
The cost will be $5.00 per person and lunch on your own. On
Friday, September 23, we will head to the Pasadena Opry; we
will leave from the building at 6:30pm and return at 10:30pm
and the cost will be $15 per person. We will have an HP1 trip
to Schulenburg to take the Painted Churches Tour, which will
be a cost of $10 per person and lunch on your own Oakridge
Smokehouse. We will leave the building at 9:00am and return
at 3:30pm.
b. We will have a Guest Speaker, Lillian Robertson of Seniors
Choice to speak on the topic of Prescription Drugs, on
September 6 from 12 – 12:30pm. . Our monthly Birthday Social
will take place on Monday, September 12 at 12:30pm. We will
have an ice cream social on Wednesday, September 14 at
12:00pm which is sponsored by Misty Fox. The Wii Bowling
Tournament will start at 1:00pm on Wednesday, September 14.
On Friday, September 16, from 2:00 – 3:00pm we will have
entertainment from the This and That Band. Linda McCormick
of Money Management International will be our guest speaker
on Wednesday, September 21 from 12-1pm to talk about Art of
the Sam: Avoiding Scams and Fraud. Starting on Wednesday,
September 28, Apostle Home Health will be sponsoring Home
Health Screenings, the last Wednesday of every month for free
to the seniors. The screenings will take place from 11:00 –
1:00pm. Bingo will be on September 28 at 1:00pm. Thursday,
September 29, we will be recognizing the FSCP sponsors and
volunteers at our Volunteer/Sponsor Appreciation Dinner, from
6:30-8:30pm.
5. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Casino Extravaganza:
Sponsorship money has been received and we are in the process of
purchasing decorations, food and door prizes.
6. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Volunteer Appreciation
Dinner: Menu was decided on; brisket, potato salad and baked beans
will be served. We will bring in volunteers/community servers to help
with decorations and serving the food.
7. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing
8. Report from the Recreation Coordinator, Michael Boyett
9. Comments made by the Public: Janice Frankie discussed having
lights put in outside by the back door walkway and extra parking lot,
for safety, when we return late from a trip. She would like to have the
schedules from the library available for pick up on our sign in table.
10. Comments made by the Committee Members: N/A
11. The meeting was adjourned at 9:55pm.
