HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2011-06-14 RegularREGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee June 14, 2011 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, which was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on June 14, 2011 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair Ms. Ginger Spade, Regular Member Ms. Rae McMullen, Regular Member Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member Staff/ Liaison: Michael Boyett, Senior Program Coordinator Genie Balderaz, Senior Program manager Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Manager The following items were discussed: 1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:00am. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Rae McMullen. 3. The May 10, 2011 minutes were approved. 4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of July include: a. Thursday, July 7th, 2011, we will visit the Gardens of Friendswood Lakes, the bus will depart of 10:30am and return at 1:30pm. While we are there, we will be given a tour of the facility and a free lunch! On Friday, July 8th we will take a trip to the Bay Area Community Center for the Christmas in July Market. We will head out at 9:30am and return at 2:00pm, the trip is free. On Monday, July 18th, we will visit the Terrace at Clear Lake for a free game of Bingo. We will depart the activity building at 12:15pm and return at 2:45pm. Wednesday, July 20th we are headed to the Museum of Natural Science for a showing of Born to be Wild! The bus will leave at 9:00am and return around 3:00pm. We will take a trip to Alvin on Monday, July 25th, 2011 for a breakfast outing to Joe’s BBQ Restaurant. Breakfast will be on your own. From there we will visit Froberg’s farm for a shopping excursion. The cost is $5.00 per person. We plan to return to the center around 1pm. b. This month’s Birthday Social will be on Monday, July 11th, 2011 at 12:30pm A Wii bowling tournament will take place on Wednesday, July 13th, 2011 at 1:00pm in the ABC room. There will be an Ice Cream Social sponsored by Kendahl Ormsby with House Call Doctors Tuesday, July 14th at 1pm. On Tuesday, July 19th from 9am-1:30pm the AARP Defensive Driving class returns to the Activity Building. The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non AARP members. Susan Cavender with the Gardens at Friendswood Lakes will sponsor the Watermelon Bash and Bingo on Thursday, July 21st from 1- 3pm. On Tuesday, July 26th and Wednesday, July 27th Sallie Godfrey with Lone Star Legal Aid will present at our Lunch N’ Learn from 12:00-12:30pm on both days. There will be Bingo on Wednesday, July 27th from 1pm-2pm 5. The Friendswood Activity Building will be closed for Independence Day on Monday, July 4th, 2011. 6. Report from the Recreation Coordinator: Michael Boyett spoke with the Accounting Department this morning and the non Friendswood resident money has been approved to be used to purchase items for the center. It will take a few weeks for the money to be available because it has to be transferred into the account. Also, we got the final approval for the bus. Now, the final details of the bus need to be decided on, like the seat fabric. Michael should get a final quote for the bus tomorrow, June 15. After the final quote is in, the Accounting Department will decide on if there will be a bid process or not. If there is a bid process it will take a month and half longer to get the bus. We could get the bus as early as August, but it will be here, at least, by the end of the year. 7. Comments made by the Public: N/A. 8. Suggestions/Ideas for the non Friendswood resident money: PA system, Projector and two new chairs. 9. Comments made by the Committee Members: N/A 10.
