REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
December 11, 2012
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
December 11, 2012 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair
Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair
Ms. Rae McMullan, Regular Member

Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member
Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member

Ms. Mary Leal, Regular Member
Ms. Kay Griffin, Regular Member
Staff/ Liaison:

Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manger
The following items were discussed:
1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:04am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Kay Griffin.
3. The November 13, 2012 minutes were approved.
4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of October include:
a. We will take our monthly trip to Wal Mart on Monday, January
7th; 12:30 – 1:30pm, free trip. On Monday, January 14th we
will have breakfast at Joe’s BBQ and go shopping at Froberg’s
Farm. We will leave at 8:30am and return about 12:00pm. The
trip is $5 per person and breakfast on your own. On
Wednesday, January 23rd we will take a trip to Gulf Greyhound,
we will leave at 10:30am and return at 4:30pm. The cost is $12
per person and a lunch buffet is included. On Thursday,
January 24th we will tour the Federal Reserve Building; we will
leave at 9:00am and return at 3:00pm. The cost is $5 per
person and lunch on your own at Doneraki Mexican Restaurant.
b. On Wednesday, Jan. 9th we will have guest speaker, Misty Fox,
with Nautical Insurance Brokers talk about Medicare, from
12:00 – 1:00pm. On Wednesday January 9th, we will have our
monthly Wii Bowling Tournament from 1:00 – 3:00pm,
sponsored by Misty Fox, Nautical Insurance Brokers. On
Thursday, January 10th, we will have guest speaker Sally
Godfrey from Lonestar Legal Aid, talk about Will Preparation
from 12:00 -1:00pm. On Monday, January 14th we will have
our monthly birthday social from 12:30 – 1:30pm. On
Tuesday, January 15th we will have a guest speaker from
Amoco Bank talk about Identity Theft from 12:00 – 1:00pm.
On Tuesday, January 15th we will have Vision and Hearing
Screenings from 12:00 – 1:00pm given by Sam’s Club. On
Wednesday, January 16th we will have a guest speaker from
Parkwood Pharmacy talk about Medication, from 10:00 –
11:00am. On Wednesday, January 17th we will have a pie
Social from 12:00 – 12:30pm sponsored by Susan Cavendar,
Gardens at Friendswood Lakes. On Wednesday, January 17th
Sally Godfrey, with Lonestar Legal Aid will have appointments
about Wills, from 11:00am – 2:00pm. On Friday, January 25th,
Mary Bley from the Gardens at Friendswood Lakes will
sponsor a Breakfast at the center from 9:30 – 10:30am. On
Monday, January 28th we will have a Lunch & Fun from
11:00am – 1:00pm sponsored by Gina’s Italian Café. On
Tuesday, January 29th, we will have an Arts and Crafts class
from 10:00am – 12:00pm; cost is $7 per person. On
Wednesday, January 30th we will have our monthly game of
Bingo, sponsored by Apostle Home Health.
5. Report on the Thanksgiving Potluck: Great event with over 100
people in attendance. Everyone enjoyed the entertainment and food.
6. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing:
Read and Reviewed.
7. Discussion and possible actions of Committee Recommendation
Procedures: Dorothy Montz made a motion that once the applicants
turn in an application we invite the applicant to the next meeting, by
sending them a letter. Once they attend or do not attend the meeting,
the committee will review the applicants, discuss pros and cons and
vote on applicant.
8. Report from Recreation Coordinator: A new treadmill was purchased
from Wal Mart and added to the exercise room. There is new striping
behind the bus and new staff parking signs. There will be a meeting
with IT to discuss getting computers for the senior center, if they are
unable to get us the computers, we will purchase new computers.
9. Comments made by the Public: Members of the senior center would
like to have name tags at special functions, to meet new people.
10. Comments made by the Committee Members: Members would like
to have name tags for the Advisory board members to wear at the
center. Those that attend trips need to park in the additional parking
lot in the back, so those that are attending classes can park in the front.
Community service workers need to be given a dress code when
working at the center. We need signs to direct people to additional
parking in the back.
