REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
June 12, 2012
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
June 12, 2012 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:

The following items were discussed:
1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:00am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Rae McMullan.
3. The May 8, 2012 minutes were approved.
4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of July include:
a. On Monday, July 2, 2012 we will take our monthly trip to Wal-
Mart. We will leave the building at 12:30pm and return at
1:30pm; this is a free trip. We will head to the Bay Area
Community Center on Friday, July 13, 2012 to attend the
Christmas in July craft market. This is a free trip; we will leave
at 9:30am and return at 2:00pm. On Monday, July 16, 2012 we
will talk a trip to Beaumont to visit the Edison Museum. We
will leave the building at 8:00am and return at 4:00pm. This
trip will cost $5 person and lunch on your own at Zydeco’s
Louisiana Diner. We will take our monthly trip to the Terrace
at Clear Lake for lunch and bingo. This is a free trip; we will
leave at 12:00pm and return at 2:00pm. Wednesday, July 25,
2012 we will take a boat trip on the Spirit of Texas
Paddlewheeler. The cost of the trip is $15 per person and there
will be lunch on your own at T-Bone Tom’s. We will leave the
building at 9:00am and return at 3:00pm.
b. We will have guest speaker, Krystle Griffin, on Thursday, July
5, 2012 to talk about Nutrition for seniors, from 12:00 –
12:30pm. On Monday, July 9, 2012 we will have our monthly
birthday social from 12:30 – 1pm. We will have guest speaker
and author, Delana Stewart, come to talk about her book, Nine
Year Pregnancy, a story about adoption. She will be here from
12:00 – 1:00pm. Misty Fox, from NIB Insurance will be here
on Wednesday, July 11 from 12:00 – 12:30pm to talk about
Medicare and You. On Wednesday, July 11, 2012 we will have
our monthly Wii bowling tournament from 1:00 – 3:00pm. We
will have a guest speaker on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 from 12:00
-12:30pm to speak about How Power of Attorney and Wills are
important to seniors. On Thursday, July 19, 2012 we will have
our annual Watermelon Bash and Bingo, from 1:00 – 3:00pm;
sponsored by: Diana Jones, The Terrace at Clear Lake. On
Monday, July 23, 2012 we will have a Hot Dog Day lunch from
11:00 – 12:00pm. We will have free hearing screenings, on
Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 10:00am – 3:00pm, given by
Sam’s Club. On Wednesday, July 25, 2012 we will have Bingo
from 1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by JoAnn Cormier of Apostle
Home Health. We will have a Lunch & Fun on Monday, July
30, 2012 from 11:00am -1:00pm, sponsored by JoAnn Cormier,
Apostle Home Health.
5. Report on the Cinco de Mayo: There were 121 seniors in attendance.
The event was sponsored by Jewel Hernandez of JSC Federal Credit
Union
6. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Watermelon Bash &
Bingo: The event will be on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 1:00 –
3:00pm; sponsored by Diana Jones, The Terrace at Clear Lake. We
will be serving watermelon, strawberries, grapes and cantaloupe. We
will be serving fruit from 1:00 – 2:00pm and we will play bingo from
2:00 -0 3:00pm.
7. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Lunch & Fun: This
event will take place on July 30, 2012 from 11:00 – 1:00pm;
sponsored by JoAnn Cormier of Apostle Home Health. We will be
serving red beans, rice, sausage and crackers.
8. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing:
Read and Reviewed.
9. Report from Recreation Coordinator: Received a quote for tint on
the windows, $1,295.00. A quote for the sidewalk is $1,800.00. A
quote for the awning to cover the new bus, $4,408.15. The awning
would be 15 ft. wide x 36 ft. long x 12 ft. tall. There was a motion
made to move forward with the purchase of the awning.
10. Comments made by the Public: None
11. Comments made by the Committee Members: The painting inside
the building needs to be touched up.
12. Adjournment at 9: 38 am.
