REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
May 8, 2012
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
May 8, 2012 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair
Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair
Ms. Rae McMullan, Regular Member
Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member
Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member
Mr. Art Lizza, Regular Member
Ms. Mary Leal, Alternate Member

Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manger
The following items were discussed:
1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:03am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Rae McMullan.
3. The April 10, 2012 minutes were approved.
4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of June include:
a. On Monday, June 4, 2012 we will take our monthly trip to Wal-
Mart from 12:30 -1:00pm. We will take a trip to the Baybrook
Mall on Thursday, June 7, 2012. The bus will leave the
building at 10:00am and return at 2:00pm. This is a free trip
with lunch on your own at the mall. On June 14, 2012 we will
head to San Leon for a tour of the Railean Rum Distillery. The
trip is $5 per person and lunch on your own at Topwater Grill.
We will have lunch and bingo at the Terrace at Clear Lake on
Tuesday, June 19, 2012. This is a free trip; we will leave the
building at 12:00pm and return at 2:00pm. On Wednesday,
June 20, 2012 we will head to Minute Maid Park for an Astros
game. The cost is $5 per person and we will leave the building
at 11:00am and return at 4:30pm. On Friday, June 29, 2012
we will leave the building at 6:30pm for a trip to the Pasadena
Opry, we will return at 11:00pm. The cost will be $10 per
person and dinner on your own at the opry concession.
b. We will have a guest speaker on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. Rose
Mary Salinas will speak on identity theft. She will be here from
12:00 – 12:30pm. On Monday, June 11, 2012 we will have our
monthly birthday social from 12:30 – 1:00pm. Misty Fox will
be our guest speaker on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 to discuss
Medicare. She will be here from 12:00- 12:30pm. Wednesday,
June 13, 2012, we will have our Wii Bowling Tournament from
1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by Misty Fox. We will have a
Fashion Show on Monday, June 18, 2012 from 11:00am to
1:00pm. Clothes from BonWorth will be showcased as well as
Jewelry from Premier Designs. We will have our first annual
BBQ Fundraiser on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 11:00am –
1:00pm. This is sponsored by Allen Rasmussen of HomeTown
Bank. On Monday, June 25, 2012 we will have a Lunch and
Fun from 11:00am – 1:00pm. This event is sponsored by
Renee Lindamoood of Regent Care Center of League City. On
Wednesday, June 27, 2012 we will have a brownie social from
1:00 -2:00pm, sponsored by Susan Cavender of Gardens at
Friendswood Lakes. We will have our monthly Bingo game on
Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by
JoAnn Cormier of Apostle Home Health.
5. Report on the Spring Picnic: Another great event with 130 people in
attendance. Jeter Memorial Funeral Home sponsored this event.
6. Report on the Senior Fish: There were 64 people in attendance. For
next year there was discussion to have other games to play for those
that do not like to fish. We could also change the event name to
Senior Fish and Fun Day.
7. Discussion and possible actions regarding Fashion Show: BonWorth
Clothing store will provide the outfits for the event and Dianna with
Premier Designs Jewelry will provide the accessories. We are looking
for models for our show.
8. Discussion and possible actions regarding BBQ Fundraiser: We will
serve BBQ brisket, potato salad, baked beans and bread. This event is
sponsored by Allen Rasmussen of HomeTown Bank.
9. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing:
Read and Reviewed.
10. Report from Recreation Coordinator: Received a quote for tint on
the windows, $1,295.00. A quote for the sidewalk is $1,800.00. A
quote for the awning to cover the new bus, $4,408.15. The awning
would be 15 ft. wide x 36 ft. long x 12 ft. tall. The awning would be
attached to current covering and match the color. We are waiting to
hear from Galveston County to see if we can sell the bus. TxDot
came and inspected the bus on Monday, May 7 and gave the approval
to use it. TxDot let us know of grants that we can apply for to get
assistance with preventative maintenance for the bus.
11. Comments made by the Public: Charles Prendergast mentioned
doing a survey to identify the interest of the senior community. Bill
Shipman explained the Study of World Religions class that he is
holding on Fridays.
12. Comments made by the Committee Members: Art Lizza stated that
another treadmill in the exercise would help out, since more people
have been using the room.
13. Adjournment at 9: 38 am.
