REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
April 10, 2012
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
April 10, 2012 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair
Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair
Ms. Rae McMullan, Regular Member
Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member
Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member
Mr. Art Lizza, Regular Member
Ms. Mary Leal, Alternate Member
Staff/ Liaison:
Michael Boyett, Senior Program Coordinator
Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manger
The following items were discussed:
1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:03am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Rae McMullan.
3. The March 13, 2012 minutes were approved.
4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of May include:
a. On Wednesday, May 2nd we are going to see the Houston
Astros take on the New York Mets. The cost will be $5 per
person, we will leave the building at 11am and return around
4:30pm. We are heading to the Greek Festival on Friday, May
4th, leaving the building at 11am and returning at 3:00pm. The
trip is free and lunch on your own at the festival. On Monday,
May 7th we will take our monthly free trip to Wal-Mart from
12:30 to 1:30pm. On Thursday, May 10th, we are going to the
Coushatta Casino. We will leave the building at 8:00am –
8:00pm. The trip is $10 per person. The Terrace at Clear Lake
has once again invited us to attend Lunch and Bingo from 12 –
2pm. This is a free trip! We will visit the Liberty Opry on
Saturday, May 26th to see a matinee show of “An Afternoon
with the King, Elvis Tribute!” The cost is $20 per person, with
lunch on your own at the opry concession. We will leave the
building at 11:00am and return at 7:30pm. We will take a trip
to the Rainforest Pyramid at Moody Gardens! We will leave at
9:00am and return at 3:00pm, the trip will cost $5 per person,
with lunch on your own at Casey’s Seafood.
b. Cinco de Mayo celebration will be on Thursday, May 3rd from
11:00am – 1:00pm. La Casita will be a sponsor of the food.
Monday, May 7th, Sallie Godfrey of Lonestar Legal Aid will be
here from 12 – 12:30pm to talk about preparing your will.
Then she will be back on Tuesday, May8th to help out
individuals with preparing their wills, from11am -2pm. On
Wednesday, May9th we will have a guest speaker from Space
City Travel come and speak about Cruise Line Trips. This will
be from 12:00 – 1:00pm. On Wednesday, may 9th we will have
our monthly Wii Bowling Tournament from 1:00 – 3:00pm,
sponsored by Misty Fox. We will have our monthly birthday
social from 12:30 – 1:00pm on Monday, May 14th. On
Thursday, May 17th we will have a sundae social from 1:00-
2:00pm sponsored by Donnie Johnson, House Call Home
Health. On Tuesday, May 22nd, we will have a pancake social
from 9:30 – 10:30am, sponsored by Sherry Graham, Sigmah,
Home Health Services. Also on Tuesday, May 22nd we will
have a drumstick social from 1:00-2:00pm, sponsored by:
Susan Cavender, Gardens at Friendswood Lakes. On Thursday,
May 4th we will have a photographer come in to take pictures of
individuals and/or their spouse. They will be here from
10:00am – 12:00pm. There will be discounted picture
packages. On Wednesday, may 30th we will have our monthly
bingo game from 1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by JoAnn Cormier,
Apostle Home Health.
5. Report on the Spaghetti Luncheon: The luncheon raised $1, 537.
This doubled last year’s number. It was suggested to purchase a thank
you plaque for the Primrose daycare for supporting our luncheon, with
the purchase of 100 plates.
6. Report on the Houston Rodeo: Received great response on the trip
and will continue for the future.
7. Discussion and possible actions regarding Cinco de Mayo: The
luncheon is Thursday, May 3, 2012 from11:00am – 1:00pm. It will be
sponsored by La Casita and there will be entertainment from Luis and
Irma Trevino.
8. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing:
Read and Reviewed.
9. Report from Recreation Coordinator: There is no new information on
the arrival of the bus, but should be here in April. Waiting for a quote
on a possible awning outside to cover the bus. The sidewalk from the
building out to the side parking lot will cost $1800. Also, waiting on
a quote for tint on the inside top windows.
10. Comments made by the Public: None
11. Comments made by the Committee Members: Rae McMullan
mentioned that Bible Study needs more chairs in Room D for their
class. She said that the padded fold up chairs in the back room would
be fine. Also, we need to check the blue chairs in Room D, some are
unsafe to sit in. Dorothy Montz, would like us to let other seniors
know that the Senior Advisory Committee Meetings are open to the
public and are welcome to attend the meeting.
