HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2012-03-13 Regular REGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee March 13, 2012 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on March 13, 2012 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair Ms. Ginger Spade, Regular Member Ms. Rae McMullan, Regular Member Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member Mr. Art Lizza, Regular Member Ms. Mary Leal, Alternate Member Staff/ Liaison: Michael Boyett, Senior Program Coordinator Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manger The following items were discussed: 1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:00am. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Rae McMullan. 3. The February 14, 2011 minutes were approved. 4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of April include: a. Monday, April 2nd we will take our monthly trip to Wal Mart, leaving the building at 12:30pm and returning at 1:30pm. Wednesday, April 11th, from 10:30am to 4:30pm, we will head to Gulf Greyhound Park for dog races and lunch buffet for $12.00. Tuesday, April 17th, we will have lunch and bingo at the Terrace at Clear Lake, from 12:00 – 2:00pm, this is a free trip. Also, on Tuesday, April 17th, we will head to Brenham for a tour of the Blue Bell Factory and the Miniature Horse Farm; we will have lunch at the Colosseum Italian Restaurant. The cost of the trip is $10.00 per person and lunch on your own. We will leave the building at 7:30am and return at 3:00pm. b. Thursday, April 5th we will have a guest speaker from Lakehouse on Dixie to talk about assisted living; this will be from 12:00 – 12:30pm. On Monday, April 9th, we will have our monthly birthday social from 12:30 – 1:00pm. We will have a guest speaker on Tuesday, April 10th from 12:00 – 12:30pm to play a memory magic activity. Misty Fox will be our guest speaker on Wednesday, April 11th to talk about Medicare, from 12:00 – 12:30pm. On Wednesday, April 11th we will have our monthly Wii Bowling tournament from 1:00 – 3:00pm; sponsored by Misty Fox. Thursday, April 12th we will have our annual Spring Picnic in Stevenson Park from 11:00am – 1:00pm; sponsored by Jeter Memorial Funeral Home. Thursday, April 19th we will have a banana split social from 12:00 – 1:00pm, sponsored by Susan Cavender of Gardens at Friendswood Lakes. On Tuesday, April 24th we will have our annual Senior Fish at Centennial Park, from 10:30am – 1:00pm; sponsored by Alton Todd Law Firm. On Wednesday, April 25th we will have our monthly game of Bingo from 1:00 – 3:00pm; sponsored by Apostle Home Health. On Thursday, April 26th we will play a game of Name that Tune from 12:00 – 1:00pm, sponsored by Sherry Graham of Sigmah Home Health Services. On Monday, April 30th we will have our quarterly Lunch & Fun, from 11:00am – 1:00pm; sponsored by Diana Jones at the Terrace at Clear Lake. 5. Report on the Go Texan Luncheon: great turnout and a lot of positive feedback will continue as an annual event. 6. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Spring Picnic: will be held on Thursday, April 12th from 11:00am – 1:00pm in Stevenson Park. The menu will consist of hot dogs, chips, beans, drinks and dessert, prepared by Chef Joe DeBonis. 7. Discussion and possible actions regarding Senior Fish: will be on Tuesday, April 24th in Centennial Park from 10:30am – 1:00pm. This event is sponsored by Alton Todd Law Firm. At lunch we will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks and ice cream. 8. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing: Read and Reviewed. 9. Report from Recreation Coordinator: The new bus is still scheduled to be here in mid-April. The Fire Marshalls office is going to donate a projector to the program. 10. Comments made by the Public: None 11. Comments made by the Committee Members: Give Frankie Santoro, the name and number of any Veterans you may know, to include in our Veterans Day Program. The committee would like to have a CPR class or a video shown of basic CPR knowledge. We will contact Norm Stuart to see if this is possible. Suggestions for trips: local television station tours and Shiners Hospital tour. 12.
