REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
February 14, 2012
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
February 14, 2012 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair
Ms. Ginger Spade, Regular Member
Ms. Rae McMullan, Regular Member
Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member
Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member
Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member
Mr. Art Lizza, Regular Member
Ms. Mary Leal, Alternate Member
Staff/ Liaison:
Michael Boyett, Senior Program Coordinator
Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manger
The following items were discussed:
1. Ms. Jill Musser called the meeting to order at 9:00am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Rae McMullan.
3. The January 10, 2011 minutes: Ms. Dorothy Montz was not included
on the committee members in attendance for the meeting. The
minutes will be updated.
4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of January include:
a. Monday, March 5th we will take our monthly trip to Wal Mart,
leaving the building at 12:30pm and returning at 1:30pm.
Wednesday, March 7th, from 10:00am - 1:00pm, we will take a
tour of the new Friendswood Animal Shelter and have breakfast
at Kelly’s. This is a free trip and breakfast on your own. On
Tuesday, March 20th we are going to have lunch and play bingo
at The Terrace at Clear Lake, leaving the building at 12:00pm
and returning at 2:00pm, this is a free trip. Saturday, March
17th we are going to the Houston Rodeo. We will leave the
building at 11:00am and return at 8:30. The trip is $20 per
person with lunch on your at the rodeo. Monday, March 19th,
from 8:30am – 1:00pm, we will have breakfast at Joe’s BBQ
and then off the Frobergs Farm. The trip is $5 per person with
breakfast on your own. Wednesday, March 28th we will head to
the Sea Center in Lake Jackson. We will leave the building at
9:00am and return around 3:00pm, the trip will be $10 per
person and lunch on your own at Luby’s.
b. On Monday, March 5th, Sallie Godfrey of Lonestar Legal Aid
will come to talk about preparing your will. She will be here
from 12:00 – 12:30pm. On Tuesday, March 6th, Sallie Godfrey
will be at the building from 11:00am – 2:00pm to help prepare
wills. On Thursday, March 8th there will be an AARP Safety
Defensive Driving class, from 9:30am - 1:30pm. The cost is
$12 for AARP members and $14 for non AARP members.
Monday, March 12 we will have our annual Birthday Social
from 12:30 -1:00pm. On Tuesday, March 12th, from 12:00 -
12:30pm, we will have a guest speaker from Vitas Hospice to
talk about volunteer opportunities. Wednesday, March 14th, we
will have our monthly Wii Bowling Tournament from 1:00 –
3:00pm, sponsored by Misty Fix of Copeland Group. Also, on
the March 14th we will have guest speaker, Misty Fox, in from
12:00 -12:30pm to talk about Medicare. On Thursday, March
15th we have our 13th annual spaghetti luncheon fundraiser from
11:00am– 1:30pm. Plates will be $7 for adults and $5 for
seniors and children. On Wednesday, March 21st we will have
an ice cream social from 12:00 -12:30pm, sponsored by Misty
Fox of Copeland Group. On Wednesday, March 21st and
Thursday, March 22nd we will have Massages by Janice Frankie
from 9:00am – 3:00pm. On Tuesday, March 27 we will have a
guest speaker to talk about food and drug interaction, from
12:00- 12:30pm. On Wednesday, March 28th, we will have our
monthly game of Bingo from 1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by
Apostle Home Health. Thursday, March 29th we will have
tortilla chip day, from 1:00-2:00pm. On Friday, March 30th we
will take a walk in Stevenson Park from 9:00am – 10:00am.
5. Discussion and possible action regarding the Spaghetti Luncheon: we
will take flyers to local businesses around town to promote the
fundraiser.
6. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Houston Rodeo: None
7. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing:
Read and reviewed.
8. Report from Recreation Coordinator: The new bus in scheduled to
arrive mid-April, running 2-3 weeks behind schedule. Getting quotes
for a sidewalk from the building to the parking lot to the right of the
building.
9. Comments made by the Public: None
