REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
July 8, 2014
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
July 8, 2014 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair
Ms. Rae McMullan, Regular Member
Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member
Mr. Art Lizza, Regular Member
Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member
Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member
Staff/ Liaison:
Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
Michael Boyett, Recreation Superintendent
The following items were discussed:
1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:00am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Irma Trevino.
3. The June 10, 2014 minutes were approved.
4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of August include:
a. On Monday, August 4, 2014 we will take our monthly trip to
Wal Mart from 12:30 – 1:30pm; this is a free trip. ON Monday,
August 11, 2014 we will take a bus to the Brookdale Plaza of
Clear Lake for lunch and bingo, from 12:00 – 2:00pm; this is a
free trip, there will a signup sheet in the book. On Wednesday,
August 13, 2014 we will head to Minute Maid Park to watch
the Astros take on the Minnesota Twins, we will leave the
building at 11:00am and return around 4:00pm; the cost is $5
per person and lunch is on your own at the ballpark. On
Monday, August 18, 2014 we will have breakfast at Joe’s and
go shopping at Frobergs, cost is $5 per person and breakfast is
on your own. On Friday, August 22, 2014 we will go to the
Pasadena Opry from 6:30 – 10:30pm, cost is $12 per person.
On Thursday, August 28, 2014 we will go to Murder by
Chocolate, we will leave the building at 11:30am and return
around 2:30pm, cost is $25 per person and this includes lunch.
b. On Tuesday, August 5, 2014 we will have guest speaker about
medications from 12:00 – 12:30PM. On Thursday, August 7,
2014 we will have guest speaker Novo Nordick talk about
Diabetes Management 101 from 12:00 – 1:00pm. On, Monday,
August 11, 2014 we will have our monthly birthday social from
12:30 -1:00pm. On Wednesday, August 13, 2014 we will have
our monthly Wii Bowling Tournament from 1:00 -3:00pm
sponsored by Misty Fox, Nautical Insurance Brokers. On
Thursday, August 14, 2014 we will have our third annual Tea
Party from 12:00 -1:00pm. On Friday, August 15, 2014 we will
have our Casino Extravaganza from 2:00 – 5:00pm. On
Wednesday, August 20, we will have guest speaker on Musical
Therapy from 12:00 – 1:00pm. On Tuesday, August 26, 2014
we will have a guest speaker from BrightStar talk about
Delirium from 12:00 -1:00pm. On Wednesday, August 27,
2014 we will have our monthly bingo games from 1:00 –
3:00pm, sponsored by Apostle Home Health.
5. Discussion and possible actions regarding Casino Extravaganza:
Genie is working on sponsors, finalizing last minute details. We are
using a new casino company, Casino Creations. Jerry Saucer will
provide music and entertainment.
6. Discussion and possible actions regarding Christmas in September:
Working on vendors getting vendors for the event.
7. Report on BBQ Fundraiser: Nice event, ran out of food, spent $500 on
materials, raised $900, $400 profited, a lot of to go orders. Next year
more flyers around town.
8. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing:
Read and Reviewed. Projection screen on back order.
9. Report from Recreation Superintendent: After last meeting, talked
about computers, they are ever really used, downsize to two
computers, save space, and utilize space for something else.
Computers need a refresh. Floors waxed on Sunday, July 27. New
paper towel dispenser in women’s restroom. Eating and drinking in
the rooms, not being equally enforced. Groups will need to tell staff
when eating and drinking will be going on, group will be responsible
for cleanup. Drinks need to have a lid.
