HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2014-06-10 Regular REGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee June 10, 2014 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on June 10, 2014 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair Ms. Rae McMullan, Regular Member Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member Mr. Art Lizza, Regular Member Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member Ms. Kay Griffin, Regular Member Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member Staff/ Liaison: Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager Michael Boyett, Recreation Superintendent Pat McGinnis, Council Liaison The following items were discussed: 1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:00am. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Kay Griffin. 3. The May 13, 2014 minutes were approved. 4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of July include: a. On, Monday, July 7, 2014 we will take our monthly trip to Wal Mart from 12:30 – 1:30pm. On Thursday, July 10, 2014 we will visit the Houston Maritime Museum from 9:00am – 3:00pm; the cost will be $10 per person; lunch will be on your own at Prima Pasta. On Friday, July 11, 2014 we will go to the Clear Lake Christmas in July, Arts and Crafts Market from 9:30am – 3:00pm; this is a free trip. On Wednesday, July 16, 2014 we will visit Gulf Greyhound Park from 10:30am – 3:30pm; cost will be $12 per person, a lunch buffet will be included. On Monday, July 21, 2014 we will hop on the MetroRail and take a ride through downtown and have lunch at the Spaghetti Warehouse; cost is $10 per person and lunch is on your own. On Wednesday, July 30, 2014 we will head over to Minute Maid Park to see the Astros play the Oakland A’s; cost is $5 per person; lunch is on your own. b. On Tuesday, July 8, 2014 we will have guest speaker Kimberly Hegwood an Estate Planning Attorney talk about preserving your legacy well beyond your golden years, she will be here from 12:00 – 1:00pm. On Wednesday, July 9 we will have our monthly Wii Bowling tournament from 1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by Misty Fox of Nautical Insurance Brokers. On Monday, July 14 we will have our monthly birthday social from 12:30 – 1:00pm. On Tuesday, July 15, 2014 we will have a guest speaker from BrightStar of Friendswood to talk about getting the most out of your doctor appointments. On Thursday, July 17, 2014 we will have our annual Watermelon Bash and Bingo form 1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by Susan Cavender of Gardens at Friendswood Lakes. On Wednesday, July 23, 2014 we will serve Hot Dogs, from 12:00 – 1:00pm. On Thursday, July 24, 2014 we will have guest speaker Leticia Chaw, talking about self-defense, lunch will be served, from 11:00am – 12:00pm. On Monday, July 28 we will have our quarterly lunch and fun from 11:00am – 1:00pm, sponsored by Brookdale Plaza Clear Lake. On Wednesday, July 30, 2014 we will have our monthly game of bingo from 1:00 – 3:00pm sponsored by Apostle Home Health. 5. Discussion and possible actions regarding Watermelon Bash & Bingo: We will have our event on Thursday, July 17, 2014 sponsored by Susan Cavender, Gardens of Friendswood Lakes. We will serve watermelon, strawberries, grapes and cantaloupe. 6. Discussion and possible actions regarding Lunch & Fun: The Lunch & Fun will be on Monday, July 28, 2014, sponsored by Diana Jones with Brookdale Clear Lake. We will be serving different pastas, sauces, salad, dessert and bread. After lunch our entertainment will be from Young at Heart. 7. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing: Read and Reviewed. 8. Report from Recreation Superintendent: The cost for an electric projection screen will be $177. Then an additional $30 for parts to install. The motion was made and seconded to purchase the projection screen. 9. Comments made by the Public: None 10.
