REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
June 14, 2016
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
June 14, 2016 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair
Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair
Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member
Ms. Kay Griffin, Regular Member
Ms. Yolanda Robles, Regular Member
Mr. Dennis Rundell, Regular Member
Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco, Regular Member
Ms. Mona Palmer, Alternate Member
Staff/ Liaison:
Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager
Mike Foreman, City Council, Liaison
The following items were discussed:
1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:00am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Kay Griffin.
3. The May 10, 2016 minutes were approved.
4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of July include:
a. On Monday, July 11, 2016 we will go to Wal Mart from 12:30
– 1:30pm. On Tuesday, July 19, 2016 we will go to the movies
at Nasa Premier Cinema, cost is $2 per person; time and movie
are to be determined. On Tuesday, July 26, 2016 we will go to
the Health Museum from 9am – 3pm, cost is $10 per person
and lunch is on your own at Luby’s.
b. On Tuesday, July 5, 2016 we will have guest speaker Loui
Vogtman, to talk about Reverse Mortgage from 12-12:30pm.
On Monday, July 11, 2016 we will have a birthday social from
12 – 12:30pm. On Monday July 11, 2016 we will have bingo
from 1- 3PM. On Wednesday, July 13, 2016 we will have Wii
Bowling from 1 – 3pm, sponsored by Faith Community
Hospice. On Wednesday, July 20, 2016 we will have a guest
speaker from Friendship Haven to speak about Estate Planning
and Medicare; from 12 – 12:30pm. On Thursday, July 21, 2016
we will have our annual Watermelon Bash and Bingo from 1-
3pm, sponsored by Brothers Produce and Garden at
Friendswood Lakes. On Monday, July 25, 2016 we will have
our Monday Movie Matinee from 1 – 3pm; we will watch
Grumpy Old Men. On Wednesday, July 27, 2016 we will have
bingo from 1-3pm, sponsored by Apostle Home Health, from 1-
3pm. On Thursday, July 28, 2016 we will have free hearing
screenings from Sam’s club from 12 – 2pm.
5. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Watermelon Bash and
Bingo: Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 1 – 3pm; sponsored by Gardens
at Friendswood Lakes and Brothers Produce. We will be serving
watermelon, strawberries, pineapple and grapes.
6. Report on the Senior Fish: Had an attendance of 50 and we didn’t
have a good turnout last year, so this is the last year that we will do
this event.
7. Discussion and possible action regarding Budget and Purchasing:

8. Discussion on Activity Building Expansion: There was a unanimous
vote by city council to have a feasibility study done on the activity
building. The next step will be to get 3 quotes from different
architectural companies with the different options for city council.
9. Report from Recreation Superintendent: None
10. Comments made by the Public: Delores Andrade and Rachel Pinto,
active members at the senior center would like to be considered for
the committee.
11. Comments made by the Committee Members: There is concern
about the rules of guns at the activity building; they would like to get
clarification on what is allowed. Council liaison, Mike Foreman will
get the rules on what is allowed. There are many new members in the
program. We need to be more proactive in greeting new members or
if someone new walks in and staff members are busy, as a board
member please step in and offer assistance to the person.
