HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2016-09-13 Regular REGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee September 13, 2016 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on September 13, 2016 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco, Chair Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member Ms. Kay Griffin, Regular Member Ms. Yolanda Robles, Regular Member Mr. Dennis Rundell, Regular Member Ms. Mona Palmer, Alternate Member Staff/ Liaison: Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager Michael Boyett, Recreation Superintendent Mike Foreman, Liaison The following items were discussed: 1. Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco called the meeting to order at 9:00am. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Kay Griffin. 3. The August 9, 2016 minutes were approved. 4. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Committee By-laws: Thursday, September 8, 2016 the City Attorney made the final approval of the by-laws and it will go on the agenda for the October City Council meeting. 5. Discussion and possible actions regarding New Committee Members: Irma Trevino is resigning from the board which leaves two open positions on the board. The board voted Doris Ochoa as a regular member and Dorothy Montz as the alternate. It will be on the agenda for the next council meeting to be approved. Mona Palmer has been approved as a regular board member. 6. Discussion and possible actions regarding the upcoming trips and events: a. Monday, October 3, 2016 Wal Mart 12:30 – 1:30pm Free Thursday, October 6, 2016 Out to Lunch: Joe’s BBQ/Froberg’s Farm 10:30am – 1:00pm Cost: $5 per person Lunch on your own: $5 Buffet or 50% off the menu Friday, October 14, 2016 Pasadena Opry 5:30 – 10:00pm Cost: $12 per person Wednesday, October 19, 2016 Friendswood Police Department Tour 10:30am – 12:30pm Free Lunch on your own at La Casita Thursday, October 20, 2016 Sam Houston Boat Tour 8:45am – 3:00pm Cost: $5 per person Lunch on your own at Doneraki Thursday, October 27, 2016 TGR Wildlife Park 8:00am – 4:00pm Cost: $15 per person Lunch on your own at Potatoe Patch b. Discussion and possible action regarding the Fall Picnic: Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at Stevenson Park. We will serve hamburgers, chips, cookies and drinks. After lunch we will play bingo. This event is sponsored by Jeter Memorial Funeral Home. 8. Discussion and possible action regarding the Health Fair: Tuesday, October 18, 2016 from 10:00am – 1:00pm. There are a few confirmed vendors. Sandwiches, chips, and cookies we will be served to everyone. It will be Halloween themed and there will be door prizes. 9. Report from Christmas in September: Friday, September 9 was slow and on Saturday, September 10 it was busier. There needs to be more social media marketing by vendors. Marketing suggestions for next year: banner across 518, move yard signs and banner to be more visible, charge more to vendors for us to do more marketing, have a bingo card where visitors have to go to each booth for a prize. 10. Discussion and possible action regarding Budget and Purchasing: Read and Reviewed. a. Purchases made: two computers, bingo software, chair volleyball net, dry erase markers, projector screen, and heater. The first weekend of October the building will be power washed to remove all mold and it will prevent further molding on building. 11. Report from Recreation Superintendent: The bylaws will go to the October City Council meeting to be approved and adopted. George Chepres and Patrick Donart are preparing a bid form to send out and the goal is to have it done by the October City Council meeting. The form will include a survey and five options on the building and the design included. 12. Comments made by the Public: None 13. Comments made by the Committee Members: Dorothy Montz donated $50 to the police bags project; she said it was ok for Mona to use that money to purchase items to make bags for the EMS. With the extra money we will discuss delivering fruit and other baskets to the police department during the holidays. 14.
