REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
August 9, 2016
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
August 9, 2016 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco, Chair
Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair
Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member
Ms. Kay Griffin, Regular Member
Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member
Mr. Dennis Rundell, Regular Member
Ms. Mona Palmer, Alternate Member
Staff/ Liaison:
Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager
Michael Boyett, Recreation Superintendent
Mike Foreman, Liaison
The following items were discussed:
1. Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco called the meeting to order at 9:00am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Kay Griffin.
3. There are changes that need to be made to the July 12, 2016 minutes.
4. Discussion and possible actions regarding new committee members:
The committee voted on Delores Andrade as the new committee
member, she declined the position. Introductions of interested
members: Rose Cole, Ann Goostree, Vicky Hefner, and Rachel Pinto.
5. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Committee By-laws.
6. Discussion and possible actions regarding the upcoming trips and
events:
a. On Friday, September 2, 2016 we will attend the fourth annual
seaside senior expo in Galveston; we will leave at 9am and
return at 2pm, this is a free trip. On Monday, September 12,
2016 we will take our monthly trip to Wal Mart from 12:30 -
2:30pm. On Monday, September 19, 2016 we will go out to
lunch at Tookies, we will leave at 10:30am and return at
1:30pm, cost is $5 per person. On Tuesday, September 20,
2016 we will take a trip to Coushatta Casino; we will leave the
building at 8:00am and return at 8:00pm; cost is $10 per person.
On Wednesday, September 28, 2016 we will head to Minute
Maid Park to see the Astros, we will leave the building at
11:00am and return at 5:00pm, cost is $5 per person. On
Friday, September 30, 2016 we will go to the Pasadena Opry,
we will leave the building at 5:30pm and return at 10pm, cost is
b. On Thursday, September 8, 2016 we will the AARP Driver
Safety course from 9:30am to 1:30pm, cost is $15 for AARP
member and $20 for non-members. We will have Christmas in
September on Friday, September 9th from 9:00am – 5:00pm and
Saturday, September 10th from 9:00am – 4:00pm. On Monday,
September 12, 2016 we will play Bingo from 1:00 – 3:00pm,
sponsored by Right at Home. On Wednesday, September 14,
2016 we will have our Wii Bowling Tournament from 1:00 –
3:00pm, sponsored by Faith Community Hospice. On Monday,
September 26, 2016 we will have our Monday Movie Matinee
from 1:00 – 3:00pm, we will watch The Help. On Wednesday,
September 28, 2016 we will have bingo from 1:00 – 3:00pm,
sponsored by Apostle Home Health.
7. Report on Watermelon Bash and Bingo: There was a good turnout to
the event. We had great fruit from Brothers Produce.
8. Discussion and possible action regarding Budget and Purchasing:
Read and Reviewed; Items that were discussed: new computers, dry
erase markers, heater, additional chair volleyball net and bingo
software for computer.
9. Report from Recreation Superintendent: There will be a meeting
with George Cherepes, Project Coordinator to discuss the feasibility
study.
10. Comments made by the Public: None
11. Comments made by the Committee Members: We need to follow up
with Gary about the flag pole to be installed outside of the building.
We need a few volunteers for the Casino Extravaganza to help at the
door with sign in and the door prizes. From the money that was
donated for the police department bags, only half of it was spent.
Mona suggested doing bags for the EMS. Frankie suggested doing
basket of fruit and goodies around the holidays for the police
department.
