HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2016-07-12 Regular REGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee July 12, 2016 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on July 12, 2016 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member Ms. Kay Griffin, Regular Member Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member Ms. Yolanda Robles, Regular Member Mr. Dennis Rundell, Regular Member Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco, Regular Member Ms. Mona Palmer, Alternate Member Staff/ Liaison: Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager The following items were discussed: 1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:00am. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Kay Griffin. 3. There are changes that need to be made to the June 14, 2016 minutes: o Corrections to the attendance of Kay Griffin o Corrections to activity building expansion. o Corrections to comments made by the public. 4. Discussion and possible actions regarding new committee members: Mr. Paul Gordner resigned as chair of the advisory committee and there was also discussion on the terms of Mary Jane Musser and Frankie Santoro. Three new potential members in attendance, Delores Andrade, Rachel Pinto and Doris Ochoa. There was a unanimous vote for Nancy Mastrofrancesco to be the new chair of the committee. 5. Report on the BBQ Fundraiser: Very successful event with a net profit of $751.32. 6. Upcoming trips and events for the month of August include: a. On Monday, August 1, 2016 we will take our monthly trip to Wal Mart from 12:30 – 1:30pm; this is a free trip. On Wednesday, August 3, 2016 we will go out to lunch at Joe’s BBQ in Alvin, we will leave at 10:30am and return at 1pm; cost is $5 per person. On Wednesday, August 17, 2016 we will take a trip to Minute Maid Park to see the Houston Astros play; we will leave at 11:00am and return at 5pm; cost is $5 per person. On Monday, August 22, 2016 we will tour the Bryan Museum in Galveston, we will leave here at 10:00am and return at 3:00p; cost is $10 per person and lunch is on your own at The Spot. On Tuesday, August 30, 2016 we will go play bingo at King’s Bingo, we will leave at 10:30am and return at 3:00pm; this is a free trip. b. On Monday, August 8, 2016 we will have our birthday social from 12:00 – 12:30pm. On Monday, August 8, 2016 from 1:00 – 3:00pm we will play bingo sponsored by Right at Home. On Wednesday, August 10, 2016 we will have our Wii Bowling Tournament from 1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by Faith Community Hospice. On Friday, August 12, 2016 we will have our annual Casino Extravaganza from 2:00 – 5:00pm; this is a free event. On Monday, August 29, 2016 we will have our monthly movie matinee from 1:00 – 3:00pm, we will watch The Inn of the Sixth Happiness. On Wednesday, August 31, 2016 we will have bingo from 1:00 -3:00pm, sponsored by Apostle Home Health Care. 7. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Casino Extravaganza: We are slowly receiving sponsorships. It is recommended that the committee members take door prize donation letters to businesses in the community. We will print letters for all members. 8. Discussion and possible actions regarding Christmas in September: So far we have about 20 vendors and we have many that are interested. We will serve lunch to the vendors and this is a free event to the public. 9. Discussion and possible action regarding Budget and Purchasing: Read and Reviewed; Bible Study class would like another heater for their room. 10. Report from Recreation Superintendent: None 11. Comments made by the Public: None 12. Comments made by the Committee Members: Mona Palmer suggested making goody bags for the police department, she will collect donations from the senior citizens, it will not come out of the senior account. 13.
