REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
May 10, 2016
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee,
this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
May 10, 2016 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Mr. Paul Gordner, Chair
Ms. Jill Musser, Vice Chair
Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member
Ms. Irma Trevino, Regular Member
Ms. Yolanda Robles, Regular Member
Mr. Dennis Rundell, Regular Member
Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco, Regular Member
Ms. Mona Palmer, Alternate Member
Staff/ Liaison:
Michael Boyett, Recreation Superintendent
Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager
The following items were discussed:
1. Mr. Paul Gordner called the meeting to order at 9:00am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Mona Palmer.
3. The April 12, 2016 minutes were approved.
4. Upcoming trips and events for the month of June include:
a. On Thursday, June 2, 2016 we will take a trip to the new
shopping center in Pearland; we will leave here at 9:00am and
return around 2:00pm, this is a free trip. On Monday, June 6,
2016 we will take our monthly trip to Wal Mart from 12:30 –
1:30pm. On Wednesday, June 22, 2016 we will take a trip to
Minute Maid Park to see the Astros play, we will leave the
building at 11:00am and return at 5:00pm, cost is $5 per person.
On Friday, June 24, 2016 we will attend the Pasadena Opry for
50’s night, cost is $12 per person; we will leave at 5:30 and
return at 10:30pm. On Thursday, June 30, 2016 we will take a
HP1 bus to the Holocaust Museum, we will leave at 8:30am –
3:00pm, cost is $10 per person and lunch will be on your won
at Candelari’s Pizzeria.
b. On Wednesday, June 8, 2016 we will have our monthly Wii
Bowling Tournament from 1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by Faith
Community Hospice. On Thursday, June 9, 2016 we will have
AARP Driving Safety Course from 9:30am – 1:30pm; fees are
$15 AARP members and $20 nonmembers. On Monday, June
13, 2016 we will have a birthday social from 12:30 – 1pm. On
Monday, June 13, 2016 we will have bingo from 1:00 –
3:00pm, sponsored by Tiffany Cole, Right at Home Health
Care. On Thursday, June 16, 2016 we will have our fifth
annual BBQ fundraiser from 11:00am – 1:00pm, sponsored by
HomeTown Bank of Friendswood. On Monday, June 20, 2016
we will have our Movie Matinee from 1:00 – 3:00pm, we will
watch Gravity. On Thursday, June 23, 2016 we will have bingo
from 1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by Bay Area Audiology and
Heartis. On Monday, June 27, 2016 we will have a 50’s Sock
Hop Lunch and Fun from 11:00am – 1:00pm. On Tuesday,
June 28, 2016 we will have a brownie social from 12:00 –
12:30pm. Wednesday, June 29, 2016 we will have bingo from
1:00 – 3:00pm, sponsored by Apostle Home Health.
5. Discussion and possible actions regarding the BBQ Fundraiser: The
fundraiser will be on Thursday, June 16, 2016 from 11:00am –
1:00pm. We will serve sausage, chicken, pulled pork, potato salad,
coleslaw, beans and cobbler catered by Joe’s BBQ. The event is
sponsored by HomeTown Bank of Friendswood. Joe’s BBQ is
charging us $5 per plate.
6. Report on Cinco de Mayo: Great event with 92 in attendance. Next
year suggestion would be Mariachis or possibly a school musical
group to come and perform.
7. Discussion and possible action regarding Budget and Purchasing:
Read and Reviewed. Need a new microwave in the dining room.
Michael will follow up about the flag that will go outside.
8. Report from Recreation Superintendent:
i. New board applications need to be reviewed.
ii. Park Projects updates: Bridge between Stevenson Park
and Old City Park installed. Basketball court at
Centennial Park will be breaking ground soon. The new
sports park is a few weeks away from being finished.
iii. It is recommended that a study be done of the Activity
Building. David Hopper recently did a study of the city
pool.

10. Comments made by the Committee Members: We need to check out
the League City Pickleball summer schedule and plan a trip over to
watch.
