HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2017-09-12 Regular REGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee September 12, 2017 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on September 12, 2017 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Ms. Kay Griffin, Vice Chair Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member Ms. Doris Ochoa, Regular Member Ms. Yolanda Robles, Regular Member Mr. Dennis Rundell, Regular Member Ms. Mona Palmer, Regular Member Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member Ms. Vickie Hefner, Alternate Staff/ Liaison: Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager Michael Boyett, Recreation Superintendent Mike Foreman, Committee Liaison The following items were discussed: 1. Ms. Kay Griffin called the meeting to order at 9:15am. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Doris Ochoa. 3. The August 8, 2017 minutes were approved. 4. Discussion and possible actions regarding the upcoming trips and events: a. Monday, October 2, 2017 – Wal Mart – 12:30 to 1:30pm; Wednesday, October 4, 2017 – Canino Produce Market – 9:00am to 3:00pm – Cost $5 per person; Thursday, October 19, 2017 – Chappel Hill Lavendar Farm – 8:00am to 4:00pm – Cost: $5 per person – Lunch on your own at Funky Art Cafe; Wednesday, October 25, 2017 – The National Funeral Museum – 9:00 to 3:00pm – Cost: $10 per person – Lunch on your own at Potatoe Patch. b. Wednesday, October 11, 2017 – Wii Bowling Tournament – 1:00 to 3:00pm; Thursday, October 12, 2017 – Fall Picnic – 11:00am to 1:00pm; Monday, October 16, 2017 – Bingo– 1:00 to 3:00pm ; Wednesday, October 18, 2017 –Wacky Hat Luncheon – 11:00am to 1:00pm; Tuesday, October 24, 2017 – Health Fair – 10:00am to 1:00pm ; Wednesday, October 25, 2017 – Bingo– 1:00 to 3:00pm; Monday, October 30, 2017 – Movie Matinee – 1:00 to 3:00pm. 5. Discussion and possible action regarding the Fall Picnic: Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Stevenson Park, Jeter Memorial Funeral Home sponsoring. We will serve hamburgers, chips and drinks. 6. Discussion and possible action regarding the Health Fair: Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 10am to 1pm. Working on getting vendors, sandwiches and fruit to serve vendors. 7. Report from Christmas in September: For both days there were over 300 people. Next year, we will create Facebook event earlier, Christmas Shirts to promote. Outside vendors were a good draw for the event. Better placement of signs. 8. Discussion and possible action regarding Budget and Purchasing: Add the purchased chairs to the budget report. Chairs should be delivered within the week. 9. Report from Recreation Superintendent: The current black chairs will be moved to Centennial Park once the new ones arrive. The exercise bike needs an instruction sheet and help adjusting the seat. Public Works and Park workers will be using the back room until it is decided where they will go, their building was flooded. 10. Comments made by the Public: Councilman Foreman talks about the city’s low tax rate, Galveston County Bond Election, cell tower, approved rezoning. 11. Comments made by the Committee Members: Chamber is having their barbeque fundraiser next week. 12.
