HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2017-07-11 Regular REGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee July 11, 2017 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on May 9, 2017 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Ms. Kay Griffin, Vice Chair Ms. Doris Ochoa, Regular Member Ms. Yolanda Robles, Regular Member Mr. Dennis Rundell, Regular Member Ms. Mona Palmer, Regular Member Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member Staff/ Liaison: Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager Michael Boyett, Recreation Superintendent Mike Foreman, Committee Liaison The following items were discussed: 1. Ms. Kay Griffin called the meeting to order at 9:00am. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Mona Palmer. 3. The June 13, 2017 minutes were approved. a. Correct Dates 4. Discussion and possible actions regarding the upcoming trips and events: a. Friday, August 4, 2017 – Bay Area Harbour Playhouse – 6:30 to 10:00pm – Cost: $12 per person; Monday, August 7, 2017 – Wal Mart – 12:30 to 1:30pm – Free; Thursday, August 17, 2017 – Houston Astros – 11:00am to 5:00pm – Cost: $5 per person – lunch on your own at the stadium; Monday, August 21, 2017 – Frobergs Farm and Alvin Seafood – 9:30am to 3:00pm – Cost: $5 per person – lunch on your own; Thursday, August 31, 2017 – Ronald McDonald House Tour – 8:45am to 3:00pm – Cost: $5 per person – lunch on your own at Farley Girl Café. b. Wednesday, August 9, 2017 – Wii Bowling Tournament – 1:00 to 3:00pm; Monday, August 14, 2017 – Bingo – sponsored by Right at Home Health Care – 1:00 to 3:00pm; Friday August 18, 2017 – Casino Extravaganza – 12:00 to 3:00pm – Free; Wednesday, August 23, 2017 – Guest Speaker – Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program – 12:00 to 1:00pm; Monday, August 28, 2017 – Movie Matinee – 1:00 to 3:00pm; Wednesday, August 30, 2017 – Bingo – Sponsored by Apostle Home Health Care – 1:00 to 3:00pm. 5. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Casino Extravaganza: Friday, August 1, 2017 from 12:00 – 3:00pm. Need more sponsorship to cover the costs, think about cancelling the entertainment, put out donation jar. 6. Discussion and possible action regarding Christmas in September: Friday, September 8 from 9:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday, September 9 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. More signs have been ordered, needs to be a lot or marketing, flyers out everywhere. 7. Report on BBQ Fundraiser: We had $1008 Gross and $408 Profit, there were not as many to go orders. Next year change the date to the last Thursday of the month. 8. Discussion and possible action regarding Budget and Purchasing: Read and Reviewed. Looking into the budget balance for chair purchase. 9. Report from Recreation Superintendent: The floors were buffed and sealed without using wax. 10. Comments made by the Public: 11.
