REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
May 9, 2017
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, this
was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. on
May 9, 2017 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco, Chair
Ms. Frankie Santoro, Regular Member
Ms. Doris Ochoa, Regular Member
Ms. Yolanda Robles, Regular Member
Mr. Dennis Rundell, Regular Member
Ms. Mona Palmer, Regular Member
Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member
Ms. Vickie Hefner, Alternate Member
Staff/ Liaison:
Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager
Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager
Michael Boyett, Recreation Superintendent
The following items were discussed:
1. Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco called the meeting to order at 9:04am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Doris Ochoa.
3. The April 11, 2017 minutes were approved.
a. Correct the date for the Wal Mart trip to Monday, May 1, 2017.
4. Discussion and possible actions regarding the upcoming trips and events:
a. Monday, June 5, 2017 – Wal Mart – 12:30 to 1:30 – Free;
Wednesday, June 7, 2017 – Studio Movie Grill – Time and Movie
TBD; Thursday, June 22, 2017 Chappell Hill Lavender Farm – 8am to
4pm – Cost: $5 per person – Lunch at Funky Art Café; Wednesday,
June 28, 2017 – Rosenberg Library Museum – 9am to 3pm – Cost: $5
per person – lunch on your own at The Original Mexican Restaurant;
Friday, June 30, 2017 – Pasadena Opry – 5:30 – 10:30pm – Cost: $12
per person.
b. Monday, June 12, 2017 – Bingo – Sponsored by Right at Home – 1to
3pm; Tuesday, June 13, 2017 – Donuts for Dads 9:30am – 10:30am;
Wednesday, June 14, 2017 – Wii Bowling Tournament- 1to 3pm;
Thursday, June 15 ,2017 – BBQ Fundraiser – Sponsored by
HomeTown Bank of Friendswood – 11am – 1pm; Tuesday, June 20,
2017 – Guest Speaker – VA Aid and Attendance Program- 12 to 1pm;
Thursday, June 22, 2017 – AARP Driver Safety Course – 9:30am to
1:30pm - $15 AARP members/$20 Nonmembers; Monday, June 26,
2017 – Movie Matinee – Hidden Figures – 1 to 3 pm; Tuesday, June
27, 2017 – Brownie Social – 12 to 12:30pm; Wednesday, June 28,
2017 – Bingo – Sponsored by Apostle Home Health- 1 to 3pm.
5. Discussion and possible actions regarding the BBQ Fundraiser: Thursday,
June 15, 2017, 11am to 1pm, sponsored by HomeTown Bank, sponsor of
$600. Joe’s BBQ had the best quote to serve 250 people at $1,250.00. We
will serve chopped beef or sliced beef sandwiches, potato salad, baked
beans, relish and sauce. Adults $10 per plate and seniors $8 per plate.
6. Report on Spring Picnic: Over 100 in attendance, first year to do an Easter
egg hunt and everyone enjoyed it! We look forward to doing it again next
year!
7. Report on Cinco de Mayo: There were 100 people in attendance, first year
to do a donation box and collected $146.00.
8. Discussion and possible action regarding Budget and Purchasing: Read and
Reviewed.
9. Report from Recreation Superintendent: Joyner is getting purchasing quotes
together regarding the activity building expansion. By the next meeting they
should have different options together to show the committee. There is a
new printer in the front office. There were over 300 participants in the youth
fishing derby.
10. Comments made by the Public: Complaints about chairs in the dining
room, Michael will bring in some samples for new chairs.
11. Comments made by the Committee Members: None
