up by saying that this was discussed during their last council meeting and funds
were approved to be rolled over to the next fiscal year.
c. Ms. Mona Palmer asked about the donations that had been missing on the budget
report presented in the last meeting. Shadey Caraveo-Saldaña explained that
these have been added and a corrected report has been provided for all
committee members to see.
d. Mr. Michael Boyett gave feedback about the bus seats. Several people have
mentioned that they were very happy.
6. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Veterans Luncheon [Thursday,
November 7, 2019, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm]:

b. Clear Brook High School ROTC has been contacted.
c. Mayor has agreed to emcee the event and Representative Weber will be sending
a representative in his place. Still waiting on a response from Representative
Bonnen’s office about his plans to attend. Shadey spoke with Lisa from Village
on the Park about inviting their residents to attend our Veteran’s Day celebration
and Genie will contact Susan from the Gardens of Friendswood to extend the
same invitation to their residents. Shadey asked the committee for suggestions
of who she might be able to contact that would be able to bring memorabilia
items that could be displayed as part of the celebration. No one knew of anybody
that had these type of memorabilia items for display.
7. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Volunteer Luncheon [Thursday,

Commented [MS1]: What are you trying to say here?
Commented [MS2]: What are you trying to say here?
a. Jeter’s will be sponsoring the Turkey, dressing, gravy, rolls and pies provided
by Kelley’s Country Kitchen. A sign in sheet will be at the front for people who
would like to sign up and bring a side dish or dessert.
b. Noula’s tap dance group will be performing.
9. Report from Christmas in September.
a. Multiple vendors complained that there were not enough signs displayed around
the City. They suggested putting a large sign on the empty lot on the corner of
Spreading Oaks and Friendswood Drive. They also suggested a sign that only
has the name of the event the date and a location. Ms. Dorothy Montz suggested
putting signs at the schools.
b. Other feedback, starting the event at 1 pm on Friday since there are other people
that still work. This may also work to prevent canceling Thursday evening
classes due to set up. Poll vendors and see how they feel about setting up Friday
morning.
c. Mr. Robert Griffon asked how vendors are contacted to display their booths at
our craft show. Genie explained that she has attended other shows and has gotten
business cards from different vendors, however, we typically have the same
vendors come back every year. The cost for a vender booth is $75 for both days,
this cost also includes a free meal on Friday.
10. Report from the Assistant Director:
a. City council approved budget
b. Michael explained that Fall Haul at Centennial Park is a city clean up event.
This event is exclusive to Friendswood residents and requires proof of
residency, such as a driver’s license. He described what types of items will be
permitted and gave examples prohibited items.
c. Flap Jack Fun Run December 7
d. Santa in the Park December 14
11. Comments made by the Committee Members:
a. Ms. Dorothy Montz said a lot of people were disappointed by the ice cream
social. The ice cream wasn’t readily available at the beginning and when the ice
cream finally it was melted.
b. Mr. Dennis Rundell mentioned a participant would like for the picnic tables to
be moved to the larger yard under the trees for more shade, hoping this would
encourage more people to use them. Committee Members felt this wasn’t a great
idea, since the picnic tables may be damaged by tree sap, squirrels or birds.
c. Mr. Robert Griffon reported that the 2018-2019 tax rate which was 0.532391%
has been lowered to the new 0.521439% tax rate for 2019-2020.
12. Comments made by the Public:
Commented [MS3]: Can you tell me who is giving what? Not
clear
Commented [MS4]: I don’t know what this about.
Commented [MS5]: Is this a single event? Could you explain
more?
Commented [MS6]: Could you make this more clear.
a. Bobby Simms attended the meeting to observe how the meeting was run and
how it functioned for a school project. She also suggested that during the
Christmas in September event, the Thursday class that is usually cancelled due
to set up, could be offered a day early rather than cancelling. The committee
members explained that there are evening classes every day and therefore there
wouldn’t be a time to accommodate the class.
13. Adjournment at 9:48 am. (David moved to adjourn; Dennis seconded.)
