HomeMy WebLinkAboutSCAC Minutes 2019-04-09 Regular REGULAR MEETING Senior Citizens Advisory Committee April 9, 2019 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, this was held at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. April 9, 2019 with all board members present, constitutes a quorum: Committee Members: Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco, Chair Mr. Dennis Rundell, Vice Chair Ms. Mona Palmer, Regular Member Ms. Doris Ochoa, Regular Member Ms. Yolanda Robles, Regular Member Ms. Dorothy Montz, Regular Member Mr. David O’Brien, Regular Member Ms. Charlene Mizener, Alternate Staff/ Liaison/Guest: Genie Balderaz, Senior Program Manager Mr. Robert Griffon The following items were discussed: 1. Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco called the meeting to order at 9:03am. 2. The invocation was given by Ms. Charlene Mizener. 3. The March 12, 2019 minutes were approved. a. Correct day of Spring Picnic b. Include on Item #10: Nancy, Doris, and Vickie went to the facilities subcommittee meeting. 4. Discussion and possible actions regarding the upcoming trips and events: a. Monday, May 6, 2019, Wal Mart, 9:30 to 11:00am, free trip; Tuesday, May 7, 2019, Out to Lunch, Rancho Mexican Restaurant, 11:00am to 1:00pm, free trip, lunch on your; Wednesday, May 15, 2019, Galveston: Bishops Palace, 8:45am to 3:00pm, Cost: $12 per person, lunch on your own at The Spot; Friday, May 24, 2019, Pasadena Opry, 5:30 to 10:00pm, cost $12 per person; Wednesday, May 29, 2019, Miller Outdoor Theater, 9:00am to 3:00pm, cost: $5 per person, lunch on your own at Luby’s. b. Thursday, May 2, 2019, Cinco de Mayo Luncheon, 11:00am to 1:00pm; Monday, May 6, 13, 20, 2019, Guest Speaker: Dorte Koustrop, Mindfulness and Meditations, 11:30am – 12:30pm.; Wednesday, May 8, 2019, Mother’s Day Tea, 1:00 – 2:00pm, Monday, May 13, 2019, Bingo, 1:00 to 3:00pm, sponsored by Linda Richard; Monday, May 20, 2019, Monday Movie Matinee, 1:00 – 3:00pm; Thursday, May 23, 2019, Memorial Day Celebration, 11:30am – 12:30pm; Tuesday, May 28, 2019, Ice Cream Drumstick Social, 12:00 – 12:30pm; Wednesday, May 29, 2019, Bingo, 1:00 to 3:00pm, sponsored by Apostle Home Health. 5. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing: a. Read and Reviewed 6. Discussion and possible actions regarding Cinco de Mayo: Thursday, May 2, 2011, 11am to 1pm, La Casita will provide cheese enchiladas, rice beans, chips and salsa. We are still trying to decide on entertainment. 7. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Fanny Packs: Received a quote for a new fanny pack, royal blue, order 250, $6.24 each; each pack to include the parks and rec logo with contact information. 8. Report from the Spaghetti Luncheon: The event made a total of $816, we did not have as many to go orders as previous years. Sold a total of 85 plates. 9. Report from the Assistant Director: a. Stevenson Park restroom and office buildings were moved in b. Dog Park: final touches, restrooms and pavilion completed next month c. Spring Sparkle on Saturday, April 13, 2019 d. Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Centennial Park 10. Comments made by the Public: a. Robert Griffon: Drainage Sub Committee had a study done by Rice University regarding the effects on the creeks, raising the bridges, and widening creek; this is an ongoing study. 11.
