REGULAR MEETING
Senior Citizens Advisory Committee
January 8, 2019
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, this was held
at the Activity Building in Meeting Room D at 9:00 a.m. January 8, 2019 with all board
members present, constitutes a quorum:
Committee Members:
Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco, Chair
Mr. Dennis Rundell, Regular Member
Ms. Doris Ochoa, Regular Member
Ms. Mona Palmer, Regular Member
Ms. Yolanda Robles, Regular Member
Ms. Vickie Hefner, Regular Member
David O’Brien, Regular Member
Charlene Mizener, Alternate
Staff/ Liaison/Guest:

Jamie Eubanks, Assistant Senior Program Manager
Michael Boyett, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation

The following items were discussed:
1. Ms. Nancy Mastrofrancesco called the meeting to order at 9:06am.
2. The invocation was given by Ms. Charlene Mizener.
3. The December 18, 2018 minutes were approved.
a. Correct Charlene’s attendance for the December meeting.
b. Correct 8A: Add to be replaced with new buildings in the park.
c. Add George Cherepes comments on street projects.
4. Discussion and possible actions regarding the upcoming trips and events:
a. Dennis: Would it be possible to bring back the Senior Fish event at the new
Friendswood Lake? Check out dates and put on calendar; there will not be
prizes for fish caught, it will be a day at the lake for fishing and lunch.
b. Monday, February 4, 2019, Wal Mart, 9:30 to 11:00 am, free trip;
Wednesday, February 6, 2019, A Little Day Music at Wortham Theater,
10:00 am to 2:00 pm, $5 per person, a sack lunch will be provided;
Wednesday, February 20, 2019, Out to Lunch at Tookies, 10:30 am to 3:00
pm, Cost: $5 per person, lunch on your own; Friday, February 22, 2019,
Pasadena Opry, 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm, cost $12 per person; Wednesday,
February 27, 2019, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, 5:30 pm to 10:30
pm, cost is $5 per person, lunch on your own at the Rodeo.
c. Monday, February 11, 2019, Bingo, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm; Wednesday,
February 13, 2019, Wii Bowling Tournament, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm,
Wednesday, February 14, 2019, Valentine’s Day Party, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm,
Sponsored by Sally Branson; Monday, February 25, 2019, Hand and Foot
Tournament, 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm; Wednesday, February 27. 2019, Bingo,
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm; Thursday, February 28, 2019, Go Texan Luncheon,
sponsored by Gardens at Friendswood Lakes, 11:00 am – to 1:00 pm.
5. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Budget and Purchasing:
a. Will be updated
b. Need more playing cards
c. New promotional item ideas; bags/cards/pens
6. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Valentines Party: Thursday, February
14, 1:00 to 2:00 pm, snacks (popcorn, cookies), games, door prizes, chocolate
fountain (strawberries, marshmallows, pretzels, graham crackers)
7. Discussion and possible actions regarding the Go Texan Luncheon: Thursday,
February 28, 11 am to 1 pm; we will purchase briskets and Don Fredo will cook
them, we will also purchase potato salad, bens, desserts and drinks.
8. Report on Breakfast with Santa: Great turnout, also everyone enjoyed Mr and Mrs
Clause, they were great for the event. Next year ask for Cinnamon Rolls from
Whataburger.
9. Report from the Assistant Director:
a. Daddy Daughter Dance; Saturday, February 2, 2019, 6:00 to 8:00 pm; Mona,
Nancy, Charlene, Linda and David O’Brien.
10. Comments made by the Public:
a. Robert Griffon – Bond Strategy in work session for next city council meeting,
need volunteers (subcommittee) to go out into the community to see what
they want; drainage projects, infrastructure issues.
11. Comments made by the Committee Members: Idea for a Talent Show in the future.
12. Adjournment at 9:55am.
