SPECIAL MEETING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT SEPTEMBER 1, 1987
MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD WHICH WAS HELD AT CITY HALL ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1987 WITH THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS CONSTITUTING A QUORUM:
CHAIRMAN REGULAR MEMBER REGULAR MEMBER ALTERNATE MEMBER BUILDING INSPECTOR SECRETARY
HAL TAYLOR MAURICE ESTLINBAUM STEVE JOHNSON MARY ELLEN BELLARD NICK CAPUANO JANE TOLLETT
CHAIRMAN TAYLOR CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER. MARY ELLEN BELLARD WAS APPOINTED AS A REGULAR MEMBER FOR THIS MEETING.
CHAIRMAN TAYLOR CALLED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING REQUEST FROM FRED DUNCAN OF PINELOCH POOLS, TO REQUEST A VARIANCE AT THE LOCATION OF 237 PALM AIRE DRIVE, SUNMEADOW SUBDIVISION, TO BUILD A POOL IN THE 11 SIDE 1 1 YARD AND NOT THE "REAR" YARD.
KAREN FAULKNER, OWNER OF THE HOME, STATED THE HOME IS AN 11 L 11
SHAPED HOME AND THE POOL WILL BE AT THE END OF THE GARAGE AND THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO BACK YARD WITH ONLY A SMALL COURTYARD. THE BACK YARD BUTTS UP TO THE GOLF COURSE. FRED DUNCAN OF PINELOCH POOLS STATED THE YARD IS INDEED SMALL AND THEY ARE TRYING TO GET AS MUCH POOL AS THEY POSSIBLY CAN GET INTO THE SMALL AREA. CHAIRMAN HAL TAYLOR TOLD ]HE BOARD HE HAD BEEN TO THE HOME AND THE LOT AND HOME ARE A VERY UNUSUAL SHAPE, THAT THE GARAGE IS IN THE SIDE YARD AND THE ONLY LOCATION THE POOL CAN BE PLACED IS IN THE SIDE YARD. HE STATED HE HAD SPOKEN TO BENNY BAKER AND GLEN CRESS, BOTH MEMBERS OF PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION AND INQUIRED AS TO THE REASONING IN THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF NOT ALLOWING A POOL IN THE SIDE YARD AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY FELT AT THE TIME THAT POSSIBLY IT COULD BE CONSIDERED A NUISANCE TO NEIGHBORS. DISCUSSION FOLLOWED AT LENGTH.

MARY ELLEN BELLARD ASKED MRS. FAULKNER IF HER NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR, ANITA MARTIN, HAD EXPRESSED ANY PROBLEM WITH THE POOL BEING SO CLOSE TO HER HOME. MRS. FAULKNER STATED THAT SHE HAD BEEN TOLD THAT THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEM MAINLY BECAUSE THERE ARE NO WINDOWS OR DOORS ON THAT SIDE OF HER HOME. MARY ELLEN BELLARD ASKED MRS. FAULKNER IF SHE THOUGHT THAT MRS. MARTIN WOULD WRITE A

LETTER TO THE BOARD AND STATE THAT SHE HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THE I VARIANCE BEING GRANTED. AT THIS TIME MRS. FAULKNER TELEPHONED MRS. MARTIN AND SHE STATED SHE WOULD WRITE A LETTER TO THE BOARD REGARDING HER APPROVAL OF THE VARIANCE OF THE POOL.
**MARY ELLEN BELLARD MADE THE MOTION TO GRANT THE VARIANCE TO BUILD A POOL IN THE "SIDE" YARD AT THE LOCATION OF 237 PALM AIRE DRIVE, SUNMEADOW SUBDIVISION. HAL TAYLOR SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY.
THE MEETING ADJOURNED AT 7:30 P.M.
