7:00 PM-REGULAR SESSION
Chairman Decker appointed alternate member Linda Thornton as a regular voting member for this
meeting.
Chairman Decker explained the process of the public hearing.
·Chairman Decker called the hearing to order to receive public input regarding seeking a variance of
rear setback from the requirement of 25 ft., for prope1ty located at 5246 Apple Blossom, situated in
Lot 12, Block 25, Section 5, Wedgewood Village Subdivision, Harris County, Texas, to build an
addition to the main structure of the house that would be encroaching into the required 25 ft. rear
building setback line by 7 ft. Variance request from the requirements of Appendix C, Section 7,
Regulation Matrix Residential District 7.Q.3 of the Friendswood City Code.
John Hanna, 5246 Apple Blossom, stated he is the applicant and is looking to build a room to house
his elderly mother-in-law who is ill. His wife is her primary caretaker. They came before the Zoning
Board of Adjustment last month and their request was denied. They moved the room addition around
from last month's request to make it a smaller setback. He further stated that he just finished 5
treatments of chemotherapy and his lung cancer has slowed but liver cancer has not slowed down.
His wife needs to be around to help care for him and not driving around to care for her mother.
Bill Pittman stated he is the contractor for the Hanna's, the room addition will match the existing
house, will go over the building line by 7 feet, should not hmt the neighborhood, is not obtrusive,
will not hurt the value of the house.
