There is a substantial increase proposed for the 1977 budget as compared to 1976. The reason is as follows. We do not feel we can postpone any longer having a secretary at City Hall a minmum of twenty hours a week. This person would be responsible for typing, filing, and handling the correspondence that has been increasing over the past ten years. The most common complaint the commission has heard in the past is that the people who come to City Hall are unable. to get the information they need without making several trips. A knowledgeable secretary could and would eliminate this complaint. The proposed salary would be $3600 a year. The second item on our proposed budget which has not appeared in the past is$1200 a year for an attorney's fees. Due to the number of proposed ordinance changes (zoning subdivision etc.) this would be the minimum fee we should expect. All other items on our budget have been decreased as much as possible. The proposed total is $8150 a $3900 increase over the present budget. Currently the city is providing both legal and clerical help to the commission, the cost of which is being charged to the General Fund. If the City desires to continue charging these services as outlined above to the General Fund out total budget would be $3500 or a decrease of $900 of our current budget. We feel however out budget submitted whould reflect the actual cost of the commission to the City.
