MINUTES OF A JOINT PUBLIC HEARING
FRIENDSWOOD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
February 2, 1981
The Friendswood Planning & Zoning Commission met in a public hearing on Monday February 2, 1981 at 8:00 p.m. with the following members present:
R.Wicklander -ChairmanL.BrownB.WetzelD. HoltG.Cress
With a quorum present and C. Beggs and R. Atcheson absent the following item was heard:
REZONING -CHURCH SITE FROM R-1 TO SPECIFIC-USE CHURCH AT LESLYN SUBDIVISION
The Chairman called the meeting to order. Dr. Wm. P. JOnes and Elmo Robinson stated their request to the publ�c.
The Public stated their comments of oppo sition:
LOIS SCHUMATE -Spoke for herself and several property owners of the subdivision. Their opposition was (1) traffic congestion (2) Members from other citys involved. (3)Horse trailors from arena using parking on thechurch property. (4) decrease in their property value.(5)type of building (metalic etc.)(6)possibleschool classes.
Dr. Jones stated the building will be well constructed and will conform with the surroundings. Their Gym area to be concealed. Three streets available for egress. ·The site will never b� a school.
Mr. Robinson (State President for Church of Latter Day Saints) Mr. Robinson stated the total site is to be completed in 1 year. It will house the Friendswood Ward. The church will sponsor civic groups such as scouts etc.
With no other comments the Commission made a motion.
MOTION: (Cress) to Council. Second: Wetzel Vote: UNANIMOUS
to recommend the rezoning for the church
FOR MOTION CARRIED
The hearing closed at 8:25 p.m.
