PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
May 21, 1987
The Friendswood Planning and Zoning Commission held a regular
meeting on Thursday, May 21, 1987, at 7:00 p.m. in the City
Hall Council Chambers. The following Commissioners were
present.
Baker - Chairman
Todd
Hines
Cress
Hansen
Ballard (7:22)
Beeth ( 7 : 4 5 )
Councilman Prihoda
Duane Hengst - CDD
Pam Aldrich - Acting Secretary
With a quorum present and with none absent, the following
items were considered.
DUANE HENGST - COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR - MAPS
Community Development Director Duane Hengst requested a
map review with the Planning and Zoning Commission of the
City maps currently in use.
Duane Hengst told the Commission he could not give them
any big news about putting the mapping system on computer
but he does have the tapes from EGT previously used. He
plans to obtain software and patch into Ridgeway's system
through the City Computer for updates.
Commissioner Todd raised the question of dollars available
for the project. Hengst told the Commission funds in this_
years budget might possibly be enough to purchase software
and, modem.
Mr. Hengst wanted to know if the Commission wanted to pursue
the mapping as far as water, sewer and pipelines.
The Commission explained to Duane Hengst the Planning and
Zoning Commission has requested mapping updates on several
occasions in the past.
Commissioner Baker asked Mr. Hengst who would actually do the
work?

Mr. Hengst explained John Giblin his assistant would be doing
the work because he has some experience in the area of graphics.
Mr. Hengst told the Commission he has no hands on expreience
in this area.
Chairman Baker said it will probably take 3 or 4 years to get
all the maps on computer. A priority order of the maps should
be established as to which would be the most beneficial to the
City.
Commissioner Baker suggested Mir. Hengst return with a recommendation
to the following:
1. Number of man hours needed for updating maps.
2. Number of man hours available to apply to the project.
This will give the Commission an idea of funds they need to request
for the upcoming budget year. -
MASTER PLAN - UPDATE
The Planning and Zoning Commission made the following motion
in regard to the Master Plan update.
MOTION: (TODD) To set aside a certain portion of each
Planning and Zoning Commission meeting
to update the Master Plan using an outline
previously presented by Commissioner
Cress.
SECOND: (BALLARD)
VOTE: UNANIMOUS FOR
MOTION CARRIED
Chairman Baker announced a reminder of a joint public hearing
to be held June 1, 1987.
The meeting was adjourned.
