pecial Meeting August 21 2018
A special meeting of the Friendswood Public Library Board of Trustees was held on August 21,
2018 at the Friendswood Public Library, 416 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas. The
meeting was called to order by Chairman Mike Czarowitz at 7:00 p.m.
ATTEND
Mike Czarowitz, JoBeth Brizendine, Neeta Jambhekar, Benette Rowley, Madeline Short, Betty
Stacy, Ted Thomas, Kim Zrubek, City Council Liaison Steve Rockey, Assistant Library Director
Karen Hart, and Library Director Matthew Riley.
ABSENT
Bryan Corey, Diane Freeman, FISD Liaison Dr. Matt Robinson.
UPDATE ON STAFF CHANGES
Matt gave an update on staff changes with Karen becoming the Assistant Director, Lisa
becoming the Administrative Assistant, Kim becoming the supervisor over reference, Richard
becoming a Library Associate, and we hired a new reference clerk.
UPDATE ON SELF CHECK MACHINE
Kim gave an update on the self check machine. She has 3 different quotes. It is still a work in
progress.
DISCUSSION OF ONGOING AND NEW PROGRAM AND SERVICES
Matt talked about possible starting a new program to bus kids from the junior high a couple of
times a month for programs. Benette asked if it was possible to do an everyday bus drop off.
Matt did not know if this was possible because of parental consent. Maddie talked about
updating the Friends brochure and promoting Amazon Smile. Karen mentioned that she did not
know if city employees were aware that they could donate to the Friends and that we should do
an e-mail to them. Steve Rockey would like to make the Board more active, interesting, and
impactful. The Board was reminded that we do have a Long Range Plan. This will be sent to the
board to look over when the minutes are sent out. There was a discussion about blocking off the
meeting room to allow for studying time as a new service to students. Benette volunteered to
promote this service to her customers.

Ted moved that the meeting be adjourned at 7:57 p.m.
