Friendswood Planning and Zoning Commission
August 1, 2005
A special meeting of the Friendswood Planning and Zoning Conunission was held
Monday, August 1, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the city hall council chambers located at 910 S.
Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas. The following members were present:
Bob Bertrand
Jim Gibson
Roy Klusendorf
Sherry Weesner
Dan Johnson-Deputy Director CD
Diana Steelquist-Staff Planner
Cheri Skelton-Development Coordinator
7:00 P.M.-DOCKETED JOINT PUBLIC HEARING
1.To receive public input, either oral or written regarding the following:
A.Zone Classification change for a tract of land containing 30,000 square feet,
Commercial Reserve B of the Final Plat of Friends Knoll, property located
at 306 West Edgewood, Galveston County, Texas, from Conununity
Shopping Center (CSC) to Planned Unit Development (PUD)/ Specific Use
Permit (SUP) -Mixed Use Commercial.
Harold Benson, 305 No1th Shadowbend, addressed the Commission and City
Council. Mr. Benson stated the purpose of his request is in order to allow a larger
percent of office use in his facility. The current zoning district he is in it will only
allow him to have up to 30 percent office use and a PUD/SUP will allow him to
have more than 30 percent.
No one spoke in favor or against the request
B.Zone Classification change for 21. 77 acres, located at FM 518 @ FM
2351, out of the Peny and Austin League, Galveston County, Texas, from
Multi-Family Residential-Low (MFR-L), Community Shopping Center
(CSC) and Specific Use Permit-Church (SUP-Church) to Planned Unit
Development (PUD) with Specific Use Permit (SUP) -Church and
Related Activities.
Charles Anderson, 704 Hackberry, stated he would allow his architect to explain
what will be taking place on the property.
Tom Lancaster, with Lancaster and Associates, addressed the Commission and
City Council. Mr. Lancaster stated the Church had purchased additional property

in order to expand their facility to seat 900 people. He stated the building would
be constructed of stucco. He also stated the structures are away from property
lines.
Stephanie Delose, with Jones and Carter Engineering, addressed the Commission
and City Council. Ms. Delose stated the 100-foot ditch on the property is being
dedicated to the Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District and that the
structure of the ditch helps the drainage of neighboring subdivisions.
No one spoke in favor or against the request.
Vice-Chairman Gibson aimounced that both items on the agenda would be on the
August 18, 2005, Planning and Zoning agenda.
2.Adjournment
With no further action the meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
