May 17, 2004
A special meeting of the Friendswood City Council, and the Planning and Zoning Commission, was
held on Monday, May 17, 2004 at 7:00 pm at the Friendswood City Hall Council Chambers, 910 S.
Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas. The following Planning & Zoning Commissioners were
present:
David Brakebill
Michele Brekke
Jim Gibson
Kevin Holland
John Olsen-City Attorney
Dan Johnson -Deputy Director CDD
Diana Steelquist-Planner
Cheri Skelton-Development
With a quornm present, Commissioner Burke and Chairman Bertrand absent, Commissioner Y eretsky
resigned; the Mayor called the joint public hearing to order. Commissioner Gibson acting as Planning
& Zoning chair.

1.To receive comments from the public both oral and written regarding:
A.Zone Classification change for 2.754 acres, and 1.432 acres, prope1ty along FM 528, South
of Championship Golf-tract one, se_ction 5 and tract two, section 22, Galveston County,
Texas, from Single Family Residential (SFR) to: Community Shopping Center (CSC).
Tom Imber, property owner, addressed the Commission and City Council. He stated that he
purchased these two lots with the intent to develop them at a later date. He stated that he
CUITently owns the adjacent commercial tract of land where the golf driving range and batting
cages are located.
Richard Drake, 3023 Mandale, addressed the Commission and City Council. Mr. Drake was
concerned about the lighting (glare) from a commercial establishment. Mr. Drake was opposed_
to the re-zoning.
John LeCour, 110 Canal Dr., addressed the Commission and City Council. Mr. LeCour also
had concerns regarding lighting (glare) and noxious food or refuse odors from a commercial
establishment. Mr. LeCour was also opposed to the re-zoning.
Varie Cameron, 3004 W. Parkwood, addressed the Commission ang City Council. Ms.
Cameron was con cerned about the increase of traffic that a commercial establishment would
create in that area. Ms. Cameron was opposed to the re-zoning.

Mr. Imber, addressed the Commission and City Council again explaining that he rec ently
purch ased prope1ty in that area and will be neighbors to the people opposed to the re-zoning.
Mr. Imber ensured his future neighbors he would take all of their concerns into account for the
development of the prope1ty.
No other comments followed.
2.Adjournment.
With no further comment, the joint public hearing was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
