HomeMy WebLinkAboutP&Z Minutes 2006-08-21 SpecialMinutes of a Special Meeting of the Friendswood Planning and Zoning Commission August 21, 2006 A special meeting of the Friendswood Planning and Zoning Commission was held Monday, August 21, 2006 at 7 :00 p.m. in the city hall council chambers located at 910 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas. The following members were present: Eugene Hammett Mark Van Riper Jim Gibson Kevin Holland Roy Klusendorf Sherry Weesner John Olson-City Attorney Diana Steelquist-Planner With a quorum present, Commissioner Bertrand absent, Chairman Holland called the meeting to order to consider the following. 7:00 P.M.-DOCKETED JOINT PUBLIC HEARING 1.To receive public input, either oral or written regarding the following: A.Amending the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Friendswood Appendix C, to allow certain special exceptions for gas stations located within the Original Business District (OBD). No one spoke either for or against this item. B.The release of .1481 acres of Right-of-Way and utility easement located in the Mary Sloan Survey Subdivision, Tract 2, Galveston County. Jerri Lynne Jobe, 1 lSun Meadow Blvd., addressed the Commission and Council. She questioned whether the area of the right-of-way being released belonged to the City. She recalled that in 1982 the city had not accepted this area of R.O.W. and therefore it already belonged to Dr. Smith. Mayor Smith asked Staff to address this issue with Ms. Jobe. There were no other comments either for or against this item. 2.Close Joint Docketed Public Hearing. The Joint Docketed Public Hearing was closed at 7:15 P.M. 3.Discussion with City Council regarding Downtown Zoning District. 4.The Council informed the Commission about the creation of the Downtown Revitalization Committee. This Co1m11ittee should continue its work and report its findings to the Page 1 of2 8/21/06 P & Z Commission. The Council would also like a reconunendation from Chairman Holland regarding alternate committee members in case not all those who had previously participated were available. Several council members expressed differing opinions concerning the requirements for the new Downtown Zone. Encouraging redevelopment and protecting the citizens were the general themes. Differing opinions were expressed in response to Commissioner Weesner's question about allowing property owners to opt in to the new district. 5.Adjournment With no further comment the meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. Page 2 of 2 8/21/06 P & Z
