AND ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
October 14, 1971
Meeting was held at the City Hall on Thursday, October 14, 1971
Members present: A. Planning Commission: B. Board of Adjustment:
Raymond Nelson Ivy Fossler
Frank Green Dick Haken
Lloyd Van Horn Truman Taylor
Ed Dykes
George Rummel
The purpose of this joint meeting was to discuss interpretations of Zoning
Ordinance 132 and amendments to same. The Planning Commission has written
all the amendments.
Two actual cases were discussed:
A. Frank Green brought up the case of a company which wanted to relocate
their plant in Friendswood. They machine and assemble electronic
equipment for use by others outside Friendswood. They contemplate
buying 5 acres for present use and future expansion. Despite the fact
this is a desirable business it was finally agreed by both groups that
it did not fit the category of C-1 in our Zoning Ordinance. It would
be C-2 or M-1 , but we have no such areas zoned to date. Green was to
tell these people that their chances for approval are slim at this time.
B. Ivy Fossler brought up the letter from Harold E. Benson to build multi-
ple family residences (R-2) on property that is partially zoned C-1 and
partially R-1 . This is located on FM 2351 , across street from the
mobile home unit. The Board of Adjustment cannot approve because it
would require a change in the zoning of this area. Mrs. Fossler has
told Mr. Benson that the request was denied.
There was considerable discussion on what is a "special exception" to
the present ordinance (page 16) . No one in either group could define
clearly. Mrs. Fossler said she will consult the City Attorney for an
interpretation.
Meeting adjourned about 9:3G p.m.
