Zoning Board of Adjustment
September 22, 1998
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Zoning Board of Adjustment of the City
of Friendswood which was held at City Hall on September 22, 1998 at 7:00
P.M. with the following members present constituting a quorum:
Chairman William Hal Taylor
Regular Member Ron Decker (arrived 7:10)
Regular Member Gary Yokum
Regular Member David O'Brien
Regular Member Ann Talbot
Alternate Member Marsha Standridge
Alternate Member Gary Harris
Z.B.O.A. Secretary Linda Thornton
Building Official Linda Taylor
Members Tracy Goza and Thomas Rives were absent.
Chairman Hal Taylor called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. .
Chairman Taylor appointed Marsha Standridge as a voting member for this
meeting in place of Ron Decker.
Chairman Taylor, called the hearing to order to receive input regarding
Walter K. Thaxton's request for a variance for property located at 1905
DeSota, Lot 4, Block 3, Section III, Mission Estates Subdivision, Galveston
County, Texas, for accessory structures, Swimming Pool and Storage building
to be less than 10' from the rear property line. City of Friendswood Code,
Appendix C-Zoning, Section 7.Q.3 .
Discussion followed with Walter K. Thaxton explaining his request and two
hardships: 1. small size lot; 2. an injured knee. His doctor has
recommended a swimming pool for exercise.
Hearing no further input the Hearing was closed.
* Hal Taylor made a motion to grant the variance at 1905 DeSota, Lot 23,
Block 3, Section III, Mission Estates Subdivision.
Seconded by Gary Yokum.
Motion approved 4-1 with David O'Brien opposing.
* Gary Yokum made a motion to approve as corrected the minutes from the June
23, 1998 meeting.
Seconded by David O'Brien.
Motion approved unanimously.

* David O'Brien made a motion to approve the minutes from the August 25,
1998 meeting.
Seconded by: Hal Taylor
Motion approved unanimously.
Motion was made and approved to adjourn at 8:00 p.m. .
