Regular Meeting
Zoning Board of Adjustment
February 24, 1998
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Zoning Board of Adjustment of the City
of Friendswood which was held at City Hall on February 24, 1998 at 7:00 P.M.
with the following members present constituting a quorum:
Chairman William Hal Taylor
Regular Member David O'Brien
Regular Member Gary Yokum
Regular Member Ann Talbot
Regular Member Ronald Decker
Alternate Member Tracy Goza
City Building Official Linda Taylor
B.O.A. Secretary Linda Thornton
Chairman Hal Taylor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. .
Chairman Taylor, called a public hearing to order to receive public input
regarding James E. Hill's request for a variance at 2404 S. Friendswood
Drive, North East part of Lot 59, Slones Subdivision, Galveston County,
Texas, for a slab height - to rebuild a burned house with a slab height of
less than 18" above the center of F.M. 518 as required, but approximately
18" height higher than existing slab. Friendswood City Code, Chapter 34,
Floods; Section 34-60 (d) (2) .
Discussion followed with Mr. James E. Hill explaining the request.
Mr. R.C. Felts at 2402 S. Friendswood Drive, spoke for the variance.
Hearing no further input the Public Hearing was closed.
* David O'Brien made a motion to Approve a variance at 2404 S. Friendswood
Drive for a stab height to rebuild a burned house with a slab height of
less than 18" above the center of F.M. 518 as required, but approximately
18" higher than existing slab.
Seconded by Ann Talbot .
Motion approved unanimously.

Chairman Taylor, called a public hearing to order to receive public input
regarding Robert Schultz's request for a variance at property located at
the intersection of Laurel and Heritage, 0.6428 acres out of Lot 3, Block
2, Friendswood Subdivision, Galveston County, Texas, for a front setback
of 30 ' (instead of required 40') and a rear setback of 10' (instead of
required 25' ) in Light Industrial Zoning District. Friendswood City Code,
Section 7.Q.3. , Regulation -gu on Matrix Commerical Districts.
Discussion followed with surveyor Mr. Chuck Davis representing Mr. Robert
Schultz explaining the variance request.
Mr. Keith St. John at 201 W. Heritage spoke for the variance as long as the
entrance is on Laurel.
Hearing no further input the Public Hearing was closed.
* David O'Brien made a motion to Approve the variance for property located
at the intersection of Laurel and Heritage, 0.6428 acres out of Lot 3,
Block 2, Friendswood Subdivision, for a front setback of 30' (instead of
40 ' ) and rear setback of 10' (instead of 25' ) .
Seconded by Ann Talbot
Motion Denied 3-2 with Hal Taylor and Ron Decker opposing.
* Ron Decker made a motion to approve the minutes from the January 27,
1998, meeting.
Seconded by David O'Brien
Motion approved unanimously.
Motion was made and approved to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. .
