REGULAR MEETING
JUNE 24, 1986
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD THAT WAS HELD ON JUNE 24, 1986 AT CITY
HALL AT 7:00 P.M. WITH THE FOLLOWING PRESENT:
ACTING CHAIRMAN ELVIA SALYER
REGULAR MEMBER DR. TOM SULLIVAN
ALTERNATE MEMBER STEVE JOHNSON
ALTERNATE MEMBER HOWARD YEAGER
BUILDING INSPECTOR NICK CAPUANO
SECRETARY JANE TOLLETT
CHAIRMAN DYKES WAS UNABLE TO ATTEND THE MEETING. ELVIA SALYER
WAS APPOINTED BY THE COMMITTEE AS ACTING CHAIRMAN.
ACTING CHAIRMAN ELVIA SALYER CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND
APPOINTED HOWARD YEAGER AND STEVE JOHNSON AS REGULAR MEMBERS FOR
THIS MEETING.
ACTING CHAIRMAN SALYER CALLED TO ORDER A PUBLIC HEARING FOR THE
PURPOSE OF RECEIVING TESTIMONY FROM INTERESTED PERSONS REGARDING
REQUEST FROM DAN LONG, OF DAN LONG CUSTOM HOMES, TO REQUEST A
VARIANCE ON SIDE SETBACKS AT 5210 WHITTIER OAKS DRIVE, WEDGEWOOD
VILLAGE SUBDIVISION.
MR. LONG PRESENTED A PLAT OF THE HOME. HE IS REQUESTING A 5 FOOT
SIDE SETBACK ON THE GARAGE AND A 7 FOOT SIDE SETBACK ON THE HOME.
DISCUSSION FOLLOWED.
ACTING CHAIRMAN SALYER ASKED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING REQUEST
FROM EDWARDO BISCHOFF, TO REQUEST A VARIANCE OF FRONT AND SIDE
SETBACKS AT THE CORNER OF DEEPWOOD DRIVE AND WHISPERING PINES
DRIVE.
MR. BISCHOFF STATED TO THE BOARD THAT HE PURCHASED THE LOT IN
1975 AND NOW REALIZED THAT SINCE THAT TIME THERE ARE NEW
REQUIREMENTS FOR SETBACK LINES. ON WHISPERING PINES STREET, HE
WOULD 10 FEET SETBACK AND ON DEEPWOOD STREET 20 FEET SETBACK.
HE WANTS TO BLEND IN WITH THE REST OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD IN REGARDS
TO THE SETBACK LINES AND ROOF LINES. HE WAS ASKED BY ACTING
CHAIRMAN ELVIA SALYER IF HE HAS MEASURED EXACTLY FROM THE
BUILDING LINE TO THE EXISTING PROPERTY LINE AND DID HE HAVE
DRAWINGS AND SETBACKS TO THE ADJACENT HOMES. HE DID NOT.
DISCUSSION FOLLOWED.
ACTING CHAIRMAN ELVIA SALYER ASKED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING
CONSIDERATION THE POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING REQUEST FROM DAN
LONG, OF DAN LONG CUSTOM HOMES, TO REQUEST A VARIANCE ON SIDE

**STE.VE JOHNSON MADE THE MOTION TO GRANT THE VARIANCE AT 5210 WHITTIER OAKS,· OF A 7 FOOT SIDE SETBACK FOR THE GARAGE AND A 5 FOOT SIDE SETBACK FOR THE HOME. HOWARD YEAGER SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION APPROVED.
ACTING CHAIRMAN ELVIA SALYER ASKED FOR PUBLIC INPUT REGARDING CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDIN G FROM REQUEST FROM EDWA RDO BISCHOFF, TO REQUEST A VARIANCE OF FRONT . AND SIDE SETBACKS AT THE CORNER OF DEEPWOOD DRIVE AND WHISPERING PINES DRIVE.
**DR. TOM SULLIVAN MADE THE MOTION TO TABLE TEMPORARILY THE VARIANCE TO GET THE EXACT SETBACK LINES TO THE OTHER HOMES AND ACT ON IT AT THAT TIME. THERE WILL NO FEE CHARGED FOR THE APPLICATION. HOWARD YEAGER SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION APPROVED.
ACTING CHAIRMAN ELVIA SALYER ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC. FRED AMBURN, OF INTERGRAPH SIGNS, ASKED TO SPEAK TO THE BOARD REGARDING A NEW PYLON SIGN THAT HE WOULD LIKE TO BUILD AT CAPTAINS CORNER SHOPPING CENTER. HE WOULD LIKE TO GET THE BOARDS OPINION IF THEY BELIE.VE THAT HE CAN GET A VARIANCE IN THE FUTURE SO THAT HE CAN PROCEED. THE SIGN WILL BE ALOT LIKE THE ONE THAT IS ALREADY THERE, EXCEPT THAT RADIO SHACK HAS REQUESTED A LARGE SIGN ON IT LIKE WEINERS STORE HAS HAD. THE EXISTING COLUMNS WILL BE USED WITH AN ALUMINUM SLEE.VE GOING OVER THEM FOR LOOKS. THE BOARD DISCUSSED THIS WITH FRED AMBURN TO A GREAT EXTENT.
THE MINUTES FROM APRIL 29, 1986 WERE APPROVED AS PRESENTED.
MOTION WAS MADE AND ·sECONDED TO ADJOURN AT 8:00 P.M.
