MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD ZONING BOARD OF
ADJUSTMENT
October 26 , 1982
The Friendswood Board of Adjustment met in a regular session
on Tuesday, October 26 , 1982 at the Friendswood City Hall,
with the following members present :
Ed Dykes , Chairman
Ray Nelson
Bernice Box, Alternate
Leslie. Vice , Alternate
MOTION: (Nelson) To designate Box and Vice as voting
members for this meeting.
Second: Dykes
Vote : Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED

With a quorum present , the following business was transacted:
REQUEST FOR VARIANCE ON REAR •AND SIDE SET-BACK FOR GARAGE
Mrs . Elizabeth McCoy, 703 Quaker Drive , .asked that she be
allowed to build a garage five feet from• the rear of her lot
and five feet from the left property line . She said that the
rear set-back would be in line with other garages in the
area. The requested variance on the side set-back would make
the garage more accessible , and she presented a letter from
the adjoining property owner stating that he has no objection
to the variance.
Based on verification of required set-backs at the time the
subdivision was developed, and the fact that a drainage ease-
. merit* lies behind the lots , the Board agreed to grant the
variance.
MOTION: (Box) To approve the 5-foot rear and side
set-backs for the garage.
Second: Vice

Vote : Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED
A letter will be sent to Mrs . McCoy so stating , with a copy
to the City' s Building Inspector.
REQUEST FOR VARIANCE ON REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBDIVIDING LAND
Mrs . Shana Lowe. Appel of 202 East Castle Harbour, requested
a variance which would allow her to receive a building permit
for a house on a five-acre tract of land having ingress and
egress via a private road owned by Mrs . Appel.

Based on the unusual situation involved in Mrs . Appel ' s
case , the fact that no additional building permit would be
available on the 6 . 383-acre tract., and that no building
permit would be issued for any adjoining property which
would require the use of Mrs. Appel ' s private road for
ingress and egress , the request for variance was approved.
MOTION: (Nelson) To grant the variance for a building
permit for Mrs . Appel.
Second: Box
Vote : Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED
Mrs . Appel will be so notified by letter, with a copy to the
Building Inspector.
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FOR THE BOARD
Chairman Dykes asked the secretary to furnish each member
with a copy of the old and new sign ordinance , a copy of the
old zoning ordinance, and any other ordinance dealing with
set-back controls . •
ADJOURNMENT .
MOTION: (Box) That the meeting be adjourned.
