Attention Mr. Bruce Foster, i
Chairman:
WO
Due to the flood on June 12, 1973, it became necessary to replace
the covered patio slab in the back yard of our residence at
121 Imperial Drive.
Shortly after the flood, a section of the original patio cracked
off from the rest and sunk some 10 to 12 inches. This section was
adjacent to the house, and was not only potentially dangerous, but
it allowed water to run under the foundation of the house. We felt
that this condition, if allowed to continue, would cause severe
damage to the structure of the house. Evidence of such damage was
already quite visable.
The old patio was broken out and a new slab poured. The new slab is
smaller in total area than the original and changed in design from
a large triangle to a somewhat smaller rectangle. We are replacing
the cover of the original patio and are also enclosing the new one.
We were unaware that we needed a building permit to do this work.
All of the work completed or planned to this date is in compliance
11/
with the deed restrictions of Imperial Estates Section I as regis-
tered in Galveston County clerk's book 254 A, page 81. We also
have the approval of the Architectural Design Committee of Imperial
Estates I Civic Club.
Upon application for a building permit from the Friendswood Building
Inspector, we were denied such a permit. For this reason we are
requesting a hearing before the Board of Adjustments to apply for
a variance to City Ordinance 174. We would sincerely appreciate
your immediate attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
