MINUTES OF
FRIENDSWOOD PLANNING COMMISSION (FPC)
MEETING OF MAY 27, 1968
Dean Saurenman (Chairman) Tony Banfield Frank Coe Tom Grace John Van Bockel
Business Items:
Interim Zoning: The FPC, prompted by the Mayor, continued the discussion concerning the relative merits of (a) adopting an interim zoning ordinance as soon as possible or, (b) proceed as planned and as scheduled with enactment of a zoning ordinance in conjunction and as a result of the Bovay Engineering Company Comprehensive Plan for the City of Friendswood.
After considerable discussion the FPC made the following conclusions:
(1)Unanimous agreement of members that zoningwould be beneficial to Friendswood.
(2)Enactment of interim zoning would not significantly precede in time a zoning ordinance as aresult of the Bovay effort. (Preliminary Bovayzoning lan schedulted for completion within 6-9months.)
(3)Modifications to a zoning ordinance areprobably more difficult than the adoption of theinitial ordinance.
(4)The zoning plan for Friendswood developed byBovay Engineering Company (presented to the Mayorand Council approximately one year ago but notapproved by Council) deviates significantly frompresent requirements, thereby requiring broadmodifications.
Later that same evening the FPC met with the Mayor and Council, and recommended against attempting to adopt a zoning ordinance prior to completion or independent from the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Friendswood,
